Don't know about Northern Ireland but it is potentially a £1000 fine and three points if caught* without mirrors that meet the prescribed field of vision. Nothing to do with an extra foot behind - all to do with the blind spot alongside.

A decent set of mirrors are inexpensive, won't vibrate distractingly and take seconds to fit. A £1000 fine would pay for a lot of diesel and nights out with the caravan but each to their own - mind that silly cyclist in your blind spot.

*Towing offences are easy work for Mr Plod - busy caravan routes are a rich source of offenders.

ok so gave them another go - after you helpful pictorial guide Reggie, i thought about what way i was using them and it was all wrong...
i was using them as replacement mirrors setting them up so i could just see the caravan on the inside edge.
This time round i used then as extra mirrors to just catch that blind spot, half filling them with the caravan, this way my point of reference (which i struggled with before ) was big white and obvious lol.
I was able to better keep an eye on the traffic behind.

Mind you i still didn't clock the nutter in a jag that passed me and the jeep in front towing a cattle trailer over hazard lines on a narrow twisty B road, only pulling back onto his own side of the road on the crest of a hill!!! that the most stupid closest thing to a crash I have seen in my near 30 years of driving!!! Stewart

The mounts are custom cast to fit the mirror-shell

SWMBO has a set for her Q3 too, those even incorporate small cut-outs for the side-repeaters!!


Expensive, but the best!!
