Hi - Roof Bars Question

Hi all. New owner of a Freelander 2.

I want to fit roof bars but all info I can see involves drilling holes.

Is that right? Can't you just buy standard LR roof bars that fit without getting the drill out?

Would appreciate any help.

Nick

Just 2 holes in the plastic trims at the front. Lift the trim up & have a look at where the roof rail bracket bolts are underneath. You just need to line up a hole through the plastic trim. A ruler helps.

I installed my roof rails, it's not difficult but take your time, get the right tools. Not worth bug_ering up the roof.

Get a 21mm socket as you need to take 2 of these out & they can be very tough to free. Without a 21mm socket you can easily round the edges & you will be stuffed.

The 4 rear mounts have plastic plugs, very carefully drill, preferably with pin vise to make hollow, you don't need to drill through, then turn old with pointy nose pliers.

They don't mention it, but run some Teflon tape around the thread of the new bolts you use. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
