My New Freelander HSE 2014

Well I did the change & am now the owner of a 2014 Freelander HSE SD4. It does seem more modern than my older 2007 Freelander SE. Very pleased with it & surprisingly got used to the automatic gearbox very quickly.

The last service it had was in December 2020, I have the invoice & it had a new Turbo fitted as apparently the throttle housing caused it to fail, with the service as well a bill for over £2000, is that normal the turbo could fail because of throttle body fault ?

Mirrors a bit jerky when folding, probably needs a bit of lubrication on them, can anyone advise how to get the mirrors apart ? I tried pushing a plastic wedge at the join top to bottom but dont seem to want to move & did not want to break it.

Have a few things to do on it like cam belt & pump & probably some new front discs & pads, rears were done for MOT couple of weeks ago, think it will be all good then.

I spent the day yesterday taking the rear wheel arch liners out & the amount of dirt in there was unbelievable, tiny spots of surface rust here & there I treated with curerust then did both arches with Waxoyl to finish off, very dirty & time consuming job but given the amount of muck in there I am glad I did it.

Congrats on the new motor.

For my mirrors I just squirted some ACF50 in the joints and worked the mirror back and forth manually, (you can move them through the full range by hand).

I have to look at my rear wheel arches over easter, noticed some rust on the leading edges, I pulled the rubber strips off and there was an orange tinge on the inside . I wont be putting any rubber strips back on I don't think.

Another place where dirt collets is behind the plastic sill,

If you push the mirrors forward, ie opposite way than normal they expose the folding mechanism which can then be lubricated and pushed back into position. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Don’t use WD40 a silicone spray is way better.

I have just done that & now works perfectly without any jerking.

I used a PTFE based spray, hope that will be ok.

!! you lucky man !!

I was looking to change my motor, I looked at quite a few other brands etc but nothing really floated my boat so decided to stick with what I like. Freelanders are not so common which I quite like.

Can't really get anything newer than 2014 hence why I bought a 2014 so hope it lasts me quite a few years.

Really? I see at least half a dozen on my 6 mile drive to work. I bet I don't see half a dozen of any other vehicle though. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

You obviously live in an affluent area mate, it’s rare to see more than 3 or 4 while driving about where I live, I see more of the bigger Range Rovers & lots of Sportages or Quashqai ( spelling) about tho. Most mornings I don’t see one taking my mrs 7 miles to work.
