Freelander 2 subframe

Does a Freelander 2 (2007) have a rear subframe? Was noted as an advisory on the MOT that the rear subframe is corroded. But I can't find a replacement. Anyone have a part number or anything?

TIA

The Freelander has what Land Rover refer to as a rear crossmember. We would probably call it a subframe. I think this is the part number, LR010245. They also refer to the front “subframe” as a crossmember. Hope that helps.

Beware of MOT reports of corroded parts, it usually means there is rust showing where paint would be, you have a number of choices from coating the unit with a rust inhibitor, cleaning and repainting to the absolute worst of replacing but probably not in the next 5 to10 years, it's advisory and up to you what you do, if it was serious it wouldn't be advisory.

somewhere on the forum is a thread from a guy who had to
replace his front subframe, rusted through in places.
some good (front) secondhand ones on ebay,
maybe a breaker can source one.
Good luck

Thank you all for the very helpful advice. I will get underneath it (when it's a bit warmer) and try and see what the MOT man means by corroded. If it's just surface rust (as has been suggested) then I'll just clean it up and paint it with waxoyl or similar. If it is badly corroded then I'll source another one and prepare it well before fitting.

Thanks

The rear subframe changed around the time that Evoque was introduced. It's not a straight swap and link arms may also need to be changed.

If you have an early Freelander and want to put a replacement rear subframe onto it, the early design one isn't available any longer so the much cheaper option is to try and find the complete rear subframe with link arms from a scrapyard.

I was luck and managed to find a decent rear subframe from a dead 2013 Freelander and it's sat waiting to be grafted onto my 2007 Freelander, which is otherwise dead without the surgery - the two rear joints between the subframe and the vehicle are no longer there.

So Are you saying that the Evoque subframe is the same for the later 2012 to 2014 Freelanders? 2013 FL2 XS.

Not as easy (easy ??) as the F1, as the F2 has a 104" wheelbase, so you'd have to extend the Disco's wheelbase. Not easy to carry out at all.
Here's mine - it was on a space frame chassis with Disco 2 axles. Never finished it. Was going to go down the Disco 2 route, until the wheelbase issue arose. Shame, it would've been great dropped on the Td5 donor I'd already bought.

Easier and cheaper just to replace the subframe? I think all the extra weight of a Def/Disco Chassis would up fuel consumption
and reduce performance, and we all know Def/Disco chassis rot as well! 2013 FL2 XS.
