Sold ours with more than 185,000 miles on the clock, and a lot more miles left, I was expecting over 250,000 miles so 290,000 should be achievable.

It's the low mileage older cars I would avoid. At one point I was driving 50,000 miles a year, and the cars were being serviced four times a year, problems don't get ignored when the car is constantly being monitored and expense isn't spared if you rely on the vehicle to earn your living. You don't get wheels corroded to hubs when you need two sets of tyres a year.
Gills last two cars were 16 years old (owned from new) with less than 30,000 on the clock, only looked at for the MOT and serviced every two years - you couldn't rely on them for anything more than local shopping. Both cars have needed to have all four tyres changed due to them literally falling apart rather than tread wear. Every job was a nightmare due to corroded bolts. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

This is good to hear. I will be looking to buy a Freelander 2 automatic, these are scarce in my neck of the country Aberdeen. I only have around Ā£3500 so the ones I have been looking at are all high mileage 2007 2008. But I am not allowed to travel to buy one. I could get it delivered but that works out to expensive. Which is crazy what's the difference me collecting to someone delivering. I spotted a nice one for Ā£2000 none runner will not start. If I had a nice big garage I would have had a go at replacing the engine. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2...amp;page=1

Don't knock the 2007 & 2008 - no DPF.
Do you really want that much hassle?

So 2008 = good
2009 - 2011 mmmm
or 2013+ because they have better toys e.g. SD4

A VERY biased opinion, but seriously ours was early and brilliant, if the DS gets killed I will be going be looking for a 2008 HSE auto - the best car LR ever built - and blow whatever the wife says. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
