Driving home in the dark tonight I totally lost my headlights on both main beam and dip, I had to drive on fog lights.

I haven’t checked anything yet but I don’t think it will be fuse related, they were coming back on for a few minutes and then going off again. I’m going to remove the headlights shortly to see if the led units have caused overheating and damaged anything. 64 plate TD4 SE Santorini Black

if you say you fitted LED I assume they are a non-standard fit? First step put the original lamps back in (assume they are HB3 at that age) as they use a single filament/source for both dipped and main, so you would lose both functions in a single headlight from a single failure.

Overheating seems likely. The original bulbs have a short lifespan (prompting people to change to LEDs etc) because they overheat.

Thanks for the comments. I’ve actually put the Hb3 halogen bulbs back in now and left it running for over half an hour with no problems. A friend did an OBD scan for me and it showed intermittent faults with the left and right headlight circuit before I changed the bulbs back to standard and after running with the lights on it showed no circuit faults.
