Gear lever locked out

Watch out I had a problem when driving today when changing from 4th to 5th the gear lever jammed and wouldn't budge! Pulled over an eventually freed it.

Rang dealer knew immediately what the problem was.....cable needs rerouting...going in on Thursday.

Anyone else had this??

This was exactly what happened to me, but mine was a gearbox failure. Dealer had it for a month waiting for a new gearbox so I hope you haven't got the same thing.

My Dad's manual had the same problem. It's a safety mechanism to prevent reverse being selected on the move. It should come out of gear below 15 mph. LR modified the gearbox to provide more resistance when moving to the 5 / 6th gear gate. It's been okay ever since. Why the gearbox does not have a lever under the gearknob is beyond me! There's just not enough reisistance between the 5 / 6th gear gate and reverse. I find it very annoying and this was part of the reason I went for the auto. Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I hope you're right and Andrew is wrong...no offence Andrew but heading off on hols on Friday and want me car!

Since the incident my gear lever has had a different feel and moves between 6/5/4 with a great deal less resistance.

Well I'll let you know the verdict tomorrow

Rich

Not good mate, but I guess it's better than waiting for a new gearbox Shocked Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

The dealer is opening up half an hour earlier to get this done for me as early as possible as we're got a long journey tomorrow.

Fingers crossed all goes well.

Impressed with dealer so far.

The dealer, Hunters Norwich, did as they said and opened up early...in fact we were back on the road by 08:30 with a new solenid on the gearbox...and thankfully we had no recurrence and had no delay for our drive to the Isle of Mull.

Hats off to good service

The FL2 was sheer perfection both on the motorways and the single track roads
