Saw this thread, checked my mileage and lo and behold I'm due for plugs.

So the 4704 TT should be left at the factory gap? I think the LR OEM gap is .030 (75mm).

No concerns about stressing the coils due to higher voltage required to jump the gap?

Denso recommends not gapping, but their lit says you *can* if you really need to. Obviously it would be easy to goon up those fancy tips in the process.

For my 2008 LR2 3.2 it came from the factory with Denso Iridium Long Life Plugs

The gap according to Denso for these plugs is .044" (1.1 mm)

I changed to Denso Power at 50,000 and again at 100,000 with a gap of .044" (1.1 mm)

I've been running the Iridium Power Plugs for 75,000 miles.


For my 2010 S80 3.2 I also switched to the same Denso Iridium Power Plugs when I bought my S80 used

I am happy with the Iridium Power Plugs


In the future I will change to the Iridium TT Plugs because that's what Volvo did for the last of the 3.2s (Technically they switched to the SIP plugs)

They did drop the gap to .032" (0.8 mm)

The TTs have a gap of .040" (1.0 mm)

Note: the Volvo plugs were used in the 3.2 and 3.0T and a Turbo application typically requires a smaller gap to compensate for the extra voltage needed when under boost.

If I buy a Volvo P3 with the 3.0T I will use the smaller gap but for the Naturally asperated 3.2 the slightly larger gap should be fine.

I ran down to FLAPS, bought the Denso TTs and installed them as is. Noticeable boost in power and motor seems to run more smoothly.

The old plugs (Champion platinum) had 72K miles and looked pretty typical... barely perceptible wear but not worn out. They did appear to have more carbon than I'm used to.

The outboard plugs (1 and 6) had carbon on the threads too, maybe warms up differently outboard?
