Not obvious from the images above but it says “The Horspower / Torque Curve below was generated by the ProfessCars™ software, based on the factory data”. So not factory figures although possibly pretty close.

Here's an interesting bit of extra information on the TD4.
In my TD4's built spec, it says Power Limited.

I've had both autos TD4 and currently a Sd4. Both have their pros and cons. I have completed 60K miles in the Sd4, 50% of which is touring throughout Europe along motorways and twisting mountain roads of the Alps and Pyrenees. The power and cruising is an absolute delight. I once towed a 1.85 tonne caravan from Holland to Costa Brava and could hardly feel it!
Generally they have been as reliable as each other but different things have "gone" at different mileages so difficult to say which is the more reliable. Coincidentally I have recently carried out a long term cost analysis on Freelander 2 ownership over 8 years for the two models combined and for servicing, repairs, tyres, MOTs, etc. they have cost £1,030/yr for 80k miles or 10p/m.
Strangely, when I had the TD4 I never felt that is was underpowered and was in fact equally impressed with its agility and cruising.
The big notably difference is the Sd4 is if anything TOO agile and makes for difficult smooth driving at low speeds or in traffic jams. The gearbox is continually chopping from 1st to 2nd and the slightest dabble on the throttle causes a drop from 2nd to first with a slight kick. To overcome this I select manual and drive around town starting off in 2nd gear; you only need to manually go upwards as even in manual the box will still drop downwards automatically BUT never into 1st; which makes for much smoother driving.

My SD4 does not suffer the same problems you mention regarding slow speed driving, have you had the gearbox and diff ECU updates carried out ? And have you had the ATF drained and replaced ?

It would be interesting to know if any other SD4 owners have had this problem ?

Mine doesn't do that. Perfectly content to do its own thing in traffic. I use command shift if I'm towing and feel it needs an upshift when it had on to lower gears. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I thought it worth bring this thread to the top of the heap, to show that Jules found the Power/Torque graphs several years ago on a similar discussion about SD4/TD4.

There is lots of information available on this forum if you use search, and choose a suitable subject.

In reality, the same problems/questions keep occurring and there is a wealth of answers and good advice available.

Clever stuff !, Not too sure the manual gearbox would handle that power increase. Isn't that why the SD4's were all auto? The drivetrain is the weak link on our cars, all components are either poor design or poorly maintained (JLR service schedule). I also seen to think that the turbo is different in the SD4. Have you had any drive train issues after the power upgrade? I don't think my old girl could handle it lol.

there are no problems (I have 235/490 stitched ) The TD and SD engines have absolutely no differences.
The manual transmission keeps the power 235/490 calm

I am no expert, but I remember reading that the manual gearbox was rated at 400, with a recommendation not to exceed 350. I believe that the mapping on the manual TD4 actually reduces power in the lower ( first & second?) gears. It's a while since I read it though, so my memory may be playing tricks with me.

I tried looking for the reason why the SD4 came with autobox only.

I too thought it was to do with a torque limit, but the graphs shown in Jules post both appear to have the same peak torque.

However we should consider the complete system, and the mapping may limit the torque in the lower gears (where the maximum torque multiplication is carried out), so the graphs may not apply in all gears.

A good remap should limit torque to the components strength.
