At first glance, this Mongoose cable - https://www.jlridssddmongoose.com/home/?mobile=#/product/4 - seems very good value at a hundred quid as I have to programme a new key and add a trailer module so it should pay for itself straightaway.

So is there a catch?

I had one and did exactly as you want to do, I think I paid £70 and it was listed as mangoose. It will code your tow bar, reset your services and look at modules to read & clear faults.
Some caution is required if you are not familiar with diagnostics.

Thanks, Joe. I’ll be honest and say that I have zero experience of such things so I might be better off to pay to get these two jobs done than run the risk of frying my car's electrics!

I bought a Dell D410 laptop with windows XP, loaded the program and along with other Freelander stuff EPC etc.
and used this solely for car diagnostics with the mongoose cable.
I have since parted with the freelander and have bought an evoque and decided to try the ID BT tool which I am pleased with.
I have the freelander laptop complete with program and all cables, in my garage if you are interested.

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if that mangoose cable was the only option to use along with the SDD software.

I thought any device with OBDII standarts would fit and work well, but as I read through the threads here, it looks like mangoose is unique-Should I interpret it this way?

(I have got SDD v.160 installed on my computer and just want to check if I can activate the fakra inputs behind the original satnav)

There have been a few posts on this very forum using cloned cables and/or cracked software. Use at your own peril

I have used a clone without any issues to date; I've flashed and modded quite a few things, a few that are listed on this forum in various threads. The most important things are a supply charger with around 20-25 amps and your laptop plugged into the wall, tons of research and patience. Maybe I simply got lucky with my purchase. Most recently I turned off my TPMS as I don't have them installed.

I will say this: there is a learning curve and you have to be willing to accept it's risky. Then there is the "brown pants" I was cautioned about when I was about to flash my instrument cluster with Alex's custom programming.

I still use version V130 SDD in a virtual box but now you can uses the most recent versions (the legit versions) with daily keygens or with an annual key. You can find this all over the web.

The software isn’t an issue. V130 is readily available ready to go in a VirtualBox Win 95 environment and it seems to be more than sufficient for our cars. The risk is that the clone cable will mess things up. Like Motion Inc I’ve fiddled with a few things found on this Forum and, so far, so good. I don't have a satnav system installed. However, I am certain that whatever systems were available when my model was made, is covered in JLR SDD v130. I have seen it in my use of the software. Now, regarding the specifics that you are asking about in the other thread, I am certain JLR SDD will have the ability that you need. Which version, I go with the newest and just use a keygen.

I'd read Stuartc & Vanny's posts carefully in the other thread as they have a ton of knowledge on the specifics that you want.
