I've had 3 Freelander 2's over the last 12 or so years and have loved them.
However my 2011 plate has got 120,000 miles on the clock now , and will need a front transmission unit, and a/c compressor soon.
Add to that the rattles that have grown i just can't justify throwing more money at my old friend, as it will become the law of diminishing returns very quickly.
So looked at the Discovery and Discovery Sport, and the Evoque.
Have gone with the Evoque, and TBH, after giving owners grief about these over the years, I can say that I'm comfortable with my decision.
So please join me in wishing my Freely at least a few more years with a new owner and hope they enjoy it as much as I have.

I've had the same thoughts recently, but what puts me off the Evo is the deep door and the narrow side window; it seems like looking out through a letter box. Many women drivers look like they're looking over the parapet through the side window. What are your thoughts about this or are you not bothered?

1. f they look as if they're looking over a parapet window then they either haven't got the seat raised high enough, or if it's at maximum, they're too short. Apologies if i offend anybody vertically challenged.

2. As you've already said might be the case, not bothered.

If the Freely was still in production then I probably would have just gone for an updated model, as I truly think they're great.

Unfortunately though they become like a house if not maintained and getting long in the tooth (like me), a money pit.

I've been tempted by a Discovery Sport myself , parked next to one last night while shopping and I'm now having doubts.

I looked at the Disco Sport as well, and like you had doubts.

However I've just literally picked up my new Evoque, and I'm more than happy.

As long as you stay away from the lower spec Ewoks they can be quite nice, having a wife at 4'10" and a passenger seat that wasn't height adjustable didn't go down well. As has been pointed out when she tried to drive it, the drivers seat had to be so low to reach the pedals that she didn't have a good enough view of the road.
The boot was comparable with the FL2, just as capable as a caravan tug, and surprisingly good off-road.
We unfortunately bought a death trap, so it soured my experience, but I hope that you enjoy many years of Ewok ownership. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I moved on for the same reasons.

I also discounted the Evo as I found it claustrophobic and cramped inside. The Disco Sport to me was very over priced and with all the oil dilution problems unresolved, I decided to stay clear.

I ended up with a Seat Tarraco 4 drive. I dont regret it at all. Solid, reliable, fully loaded at the fraction of the cost of the Sport. I no longer needed a vehicle with the level of off road ability, so it was a no brainer. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

I've just moved over to a 2020 Disco Sport SE. Absolutely love it. I don't have a single complaint other than the stereo isn't as good as the FL2 Alpine unit. I am fairly tall and loved the driving position of the FL2 and I'd say I'm just as comfortable in the Disco. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

Absolutely love the DS. Superbly relaxing drive. It's also 10 years younger which helps.
