Door doesn’t unlock from the inside

Freel2 Readers,

I’ve read the posts about the motor failure in the latch mechanism and if the motor has failed then what you about to read likely won’t help.

However if the lock/unlock button moves but sometimes not far enough then keep reading

As you can guess I have this problem on one of my doors

To mitigate the problem I lubricated the cable

Note I held the cable high so that the silicone would flow down the cable

I’ll post here if it acts up and I need to take it apart again

Thanks

Paul

Freel2 Readers,

So far so good.

Before lubricating the cable the rear right door wouldn’t unlock and pressing the unlock button on the dashboard or the key fob wouldn’t unlock the door from the inside. It would be unlocked if you pulled on the outside handle.

Now that I lubricated the cable it unlocks every time.

Note: I do suspect that the mechanism is worn out and it will need to be replaced at some point.

But for now lubricating the cable has worked.

I will say that the engineer that designed the latch did a brilliant job, I am very impressed that they were able to do so much with just one cable for lock/unlock and opening.

The obvious down side to this very cleaver design is that it stops working when parts get slightly worn.

In summary the design is impressive but not fault tolerant.

I will post here if my temporary solution stops working.

One last thought if I do replace the lock mechanism I will also replace the cable at the same time.

Take care

Paul

Update.

Now that its been a while here is my update.

1. Lubricating the cable didn’t completely eliminate the unlock fault (inside door handle only)

2. If the door doesn’t unlock then pressing the key fob or dashboard unlock button a second time will work

Note: the door can always be unlocked manually and then the handle will open the door.

In summary it’s significantly better but not completely fixed.

Thanks

Paul
