Parts recommendations

Hi all,

My Freelander is coming up to 200k and i’m looking to do some maintenance.

Firstly i need to replace the bonnet gas struts to keep the bloody thing staying open! Any recommendations on where I can get aftermarket struts from? Tried repco but they didn’t have any.

Also looking for a good supplier for fuel filter and where to get those bulb hand pumps to bleed the filter ?

Many thanks
Neil

I got struts for the boot for my previous car, a VW, from UK, it was cheaper than locally & had them in 5 days. Maybe longer with Covid!

Replace in pairs. Wish I had done it sooner! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

The run of the mill things are reasonably well priced. I use an independent mechanic & he gets the parts from LR. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Definitely will for the fuel filter, probably aftermarket for air and pollen filters though

Thanks. Do you have a preferred place to buy the run of the mill stuff?

Save a few pounds/dollars................You don't need a bulb to prime the filter. From a search on here

The postage has gone up a lot in the last couple of years, but if you're buying filters/parts all in one go for the year, places like this are great as you can choose genuine/OEM/Pattern depending on what you're getting:

Ebay is a good friend for parts, you can get many different brands, specify whether it's from Oz or not (postage from overseas is very slow at the moment). I get all my supplies on there - I've even bought oil that way.
The struts don't have to be specific: length, diameter, extended length and weight capacity are all you need to match. Places like Repco can overthink things a bit if the person behind the counter isn't familiar with parts interpretation. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

I actually went Aliexpress for bonnet struts... expected to have to throw them away on arrival, but at least a year in and they're solid!
