Freelancer 2 rear droning noise

Hi everyone, I have a 2009 Freelander 2 Xs manual, I have had it since 2011 and have had a few issues with it but the most noticeable issue is the rear diff that my local Landrover dealer changed for a new one with upgraded bearing just under 3 years ago which cost around £1300.00, I have covered around 12k miles since the new diff was fitted and now the noise is back worst then ever so I took it back to my local LR independent dealer to get it checked out and was told the noise is coming from the rear diff again but they need the car for furher investigating and told me that if it wasn’t the diff it could be the Haldex unit which would cost me around £2300.00, so I was wondering if that is right and could anyone give me any advice please.

You can buy a refurbed haldex for less than 900pounds inclusive of vat from quite a few outfits do a search on here fitting is not that hard or get a local garage to fit for you the one that you are using seem very expensive try Bell engineering for a price good luck

Just as a test remove fuse FB6 in the boot fuse box this will disable the haldex see if it still makes the noise

Thankyou Denboy
I will try that today at some point, will it be safe to drive without the fuse in, has the Haldex unit got bearings in it.

Hi by pulling the fuse the haldex cannot operate meaning no drive to the rear diff you are now front wheel drive no load on the diff
Stay safe

Hi
Make sure it's not the tyres !!!!
I had mine booked in with Bell Engineering to change the Rear Diff because of noise like yours - Before doing anything he test drove it and confirmed its was the tyres.
I changed from Grabber A1's which were 3/4's worn and fitted Grabber A3's - The car is now running perfect - I cannot praise Bell Engineering enough - While I was at their base I had the oil changed in the Rear Diff, and oil filter change in the Haldex. - My car is a 2008 FL2 XS - 125,000 miles.
Regards.
Gordon.

I removed the fuse that you said and still the noise there, does that mean it’s not the Haldex but could be the diff again.

I doubt it's the Haldex, as there isn't much in there to make a noise.

However a Haldex takes less than an hour to change. I just removed mine in under 30 minutes, laying on my back, in the cold. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone.
2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone.
Audi A5 convertible, my daily driver.
1972 Hillman Avenger GT, the project.

Likewise...took my car to Austen at Bell Engineering for Diff Bearing. He said it was the N/s rear wheel bearing (it sounded to me like rear centre) and if he was wrong he’d cover all my costs - he was right of course and no charge for his time either.

Once we get through the great plague I'll take it back to him for diff and haldex service.
