A friend of mine has a 6 month old XS which his wife drives most of the time (well you would let her, wouldn`t you, if you had a Porsche to play in - until it snows of course!).
Anyway he drove it last week and found the steering heavy - wife said "is it? Hasn`t it always been like that?"
Been into dealer who changed the pump - no different. They are now waiting for a rack.
I`ve searched and can`t find anyone else that has had a similar problem. Anyone keeping quiet about it or can shed any light. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

To complete the story - FL2 went in for a new pump - No different. The Dealer had to order a new rack which is now fitted and the problem is gone.
Hope this doesn`t start a trend. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Sorry to hear about you problems - fingers crossed it all sorted now.

My FL2 is better on stearing racks than my last car. So far, touch wood, no stearing racks neede (2700 miles, 3 months). My A3 Sportback Quattro did 4 in 12,000 miles and 12 months.

Audis seem to suffer steering rack problems the new TT has the same trouble . Not much help to a FL2 owner but at least you know its not just a Land Rover thing  At work

Hey nicam did your friends steering feel 'notchy' when cold? Cos that's what mine is like.

When you first start up in the morning it feels like a kind of 'breaking free' feeling before the steering moves freely.
A bit like when your ( not FL2) handbrake rusts/sticks on when you have left your car for a while.

Sorry Snappa, didn`t see your question until I dug this topic up again because the steering has gone heavy again on my friends FL2, awaiting investigation again. Very strange!!

Mine went in for a 15000 mile service last month. Whilst in there they checked the bottom swivel joint in accordance with a service notice they had and found it needed replacing.
