Some of the better battery brands like Duracell have a thin clear film over the back of the battery that needs removed before use. It is intended to stop small children putting batteries in their mouths as it has a bitter taste. The battery will not work with the film in place.Either that or as others have mentioned the battery is dead or perhaps in the wrong way round.Worth checking! |

I have had the same problem with duracell twin packs with one being flat. It reminds me of the "quality control" process of a roller bearing firm I once worked for. All of the rejected bearings were sent over to the packing department and one rejected bearing was put into each pack that was sent out. The thinking was that if when there was a batch of rejects and they all went out in one pack the pack would be returned but if only one in a pack was faulty then is most likely it would not be returned. Now that really is good customer relations especially if you had just rebuilt a gearbox only to find that one bearing was out of tolerance or failed prematurely. More like sick as dog relations for the poor sod who just rebuilt his gearbox. J |

Hmmmmm all very interesting a couple of weeks ago my missis said her Nissan fob was dead so I put in a new battery and it was fine for a day or so then not working so I put in another which has been fine, the other dead battery is still on my little screwdriver set where I left it just had a look and it’s a Duracell. |

I never leave Duracell AA alkaline batteries in devices once they’ve been used in any way. From experience, they just leak. Caustic solution all over the battery compartment and another torch, flashgun, tester, remote control or whatever ruined. Cheap batteries from other manufacturers don’t seem to have the same problem.

Worth a check, these watch type batteries have a best before date and they are not always that obvious. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
