Replacing SatNav with JVC KW-M560BT in 2009 Freelander / LR2

I started this journey with an Alpine iLX-650W that didn't have the proper wiring harnesses with it, so I returned and got the JVC KW-M560BT instead. It's a 6.8" Android Auto / Apple CarPlay compatible 2DIN unit.

Knowing that the SatNav system is pointless and we're living in an Apple ecosystem at home, the wife and I opted for something CarPlay compatible. I still like tactile encoders and buttons, so I am leaving the Alpine system with 6CD changer, set to Aux mode to be installed until the Tesla style Freelander units on AliExpress plummet in price Rolling Eyes

I have installed a RCA video rear-view camera, mounted on a frame underneath the license plate, and have cleanly run the line through the housing for the rear parking lights into the roof, behind all of the paneling and now waiting to be connected to the KW-M560BT.

Thankfully it has RCAs for CAM IN/OUT, USB for Phone, 3.5mm for AUX IN, 3.5mm for MIC IN, RCAs for L/R FRONT PRE OUT and L/R REAR PRE OUT. The factory harness also features a Purple/White Wire for Reverse indicator to switch the video feed to camera; Light Green Wire for Parking Sensor; Light Blue/Yellow for Steering Remote; Orange/White for Dimmer; Red for ignition; Yellow for Battery, and Black for Car Chassis / Ground.

I am trying to avoid buying a harness at all costs, and instead wire directly to the Land Rover cable harnesses.

Please correct me if I am wrong here:

JVC Red [Power] splices into LR2 BN-RD [via D282, Audio Head Unit]
JVC Light Green [Parking Sensor] splices into LR2 BU [via P107 Auxillary Junction box]
JVC Light Blue/Yellow [Remote] splices into LR GY-YE [via P107 Auxillary Junction box]
JVC Purple/White [Reverse Sensor] splices into LR GN-BN [via D184 Parking Aid Module]
JVC Black [Ground] splices into LR BK-YE [via D282, Audio Head Unit]
JVC RCA Left Front / White splices into LR BU [via D282, Audio Head Unit]
JVC RCA Right Front / Red splices into LR BU-GN [via D282, Audio Head Unit]
JVC RCA Ground Front / Black splices into LR YE-GN [via D282, Audio Head Unit]

JVC Yellow [Battery] splices into LR YE-GN [via D282, Audio Head Unit]

Never mind ... I returned it. Too much of a hassle.

Looking at this instead. Anyone have any experience with the Heng Chang Pro S-9 model here? seems much simpler than splicing a bunch of wires together.

Looks like an interesting product. I would be interested in seeing how you get on with installling and using it.

I’ve installed the Alpine ilx-702d with the correct harness and a reverse camera and couldn’t be happier.

I quit buying Ali Express sh*tty stuff because I had to much troubles with lots of products of them and didn’t receive any support.
I buy local now and it is worh every penny.

I left my SD [Standard definition] reverse camera installed. I wanted the reverse of what you did; keep the stock Alpine head unit and replace the SatNav with a new multimedia player to feed the aux input on the head unit. Couldn't seem to get the JVC to stay on correctly without resetting itself every other time I drove the LR2, so perhaps I bunked the install.

The AliExpress stuff seems "ok"; it's not racism, it's just that communication can be cryptic, to the point of saying Censored it and buy local from Best Buy, in my case. Practically anything and everything made with silicon and plastic is made in China; there's no real way around it. I just want the final outcome to look stock, not Censored , and hopefully last the next 5-10 years, or at least until we can afford a Model X or Lucid Gravity Rolling Eyes

Whoops, forgot to post the results! Install was extremely by comparison to the other options I had tried. So far I'm pretty happy with it. The Android OS has crashed a few times.. not sure when/if I will tackle an update since we drive the truck once or twice a week.

I'd recommend it despite the issues with Android OS.
