Problem starting

Morning all,

So a couple of times this week the OH has had problems starting the LR, when the key is pressed in there is nothing after a few seconds you can hear an audible click from the engine then after about 5 mins you can start her, at first I thought it was the battery as reading on here it is an issue with older ones so I got another battery from a working LR and tried it but still having the same issue, any ideas where to start before I put it to my local Indi.

thanks again as always this forum saves me a fortune Dave

when you say not starting , when you press the start button, do you see the glow plug light on the dash ? usually you only see it when the temperature is low , in minus figures I think, but if the glow plugs are on the way out they may take longer to heat before the car will start.

On the occasions it has not started straight away, was the temperature low ? and was it really 5 minutes or just seemed like it ?

I have had it on an old Defender where the glow plugs were knackered and it sometimes took a minute to heat up enough to start, I replaced the plugs and it started instantly every time.

If it is this then you can get a set of glow plugs for around £50 now.

Anyway, hope that helps, no doubt someone more knowledgeable with the Freelander will be able to help you.
cheers
Chris
