General Grabbers Fitted

Have had new all terain tyres fitted to 17" rims. having failed to find an exact size replacement in a decent AT. Found General Grabber AT2 in a 255 65 17 size. THis tyre is slightly bigger rolling diameter to standard - 1" bigger. 255 appear to fit ok with no rubbing. Tread pattern looks great. I look forward to giving them a test soon. Noise on road is perfectly ok. Quieter that BFG At's fitted to Freel 1. Have noticed a slight reduction in mpg since fitting, hopefully they will "run-in" and improve.

Would like to add some pictures, how do I upload some shots? 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

narly looking tyres Thumbs Up hope they suit your needs, my agronomist gets by with an Audi a3 but he has fitted a sump guard after few oil loss disasters. The back seats of his car are a total disaster area, as all his customers dogs like to go for a ride while he inspects their fields Rolling Eyes At work

Thanks for tip on adding pictures.

My back seat is also a war zone, had to get a rear seat cover to limit damage, my waring factions are the two kids, they must use food and mud as weapons! Field walking would be slow job down here without a 4X4. One 5acre field to look at, down a half mile rutted track and 3 grass fields, really profitable!

Had a great play yesterday, taking some soil samples for a shooting business. Involved dropping into and fording a large river about 20 yards wide and quite deep enough, wouldn't like to try it in the winter! Then along tracks through a v. large wood on the side of a hill, pity it was dry! Its a tough job sometimes! 1998 Feelander XDI Hardback - Gone

You said your mpg had dropped.

That would be expecetd as the computer will assume that the tyre rolling diameter is the same as before.

As you have a larger diameter the wheels do not need to go around as many times (approx 125 times less per mile) to do the same distance.

The computer will report a drop in mpg as it thinks you are doing less distance per same amount of fuel, but you are doing the same distance.

I worked out that assuming a 17" wheel has total diameter with normal tyres of 22" and your wheels with tyres would be 23" then the computer should report about that you are getting approx 0.7 mpg less than you would of previously. In fact you are getting the same. Also your odometer and trip meter will be going up slightly slower.

When you do a physical mile the cars computer will think you have only done approx 0.98 of a mile.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Snairda!

Wise words from you. So fitting better tryes not only gets the car further down the track but it also depreciates less, due to lower mileage Smile Might cover the cost of one tyre Rolling with laughter
