New to the forum and yes, I have a locked up haldex, gen 4 on a 59 plate td4 auto. After doing the research and ending up calling Bell engineering and discovering they no longer recondition haldex units, are my only options secondhand or £3500 from JLR?

Are you sure you have contacted the correct "Bell Engineering" ??

I was there in September and all was normal and I have just checked his Facebook page which is active up to November 5th

Yep, that's the one. He said that the recon ones are showing signs of packing up so they have stopped doing them.

Wow, likely they have just not been able to update the website as of yet then.

I have sourced a recon haldex from these folk, https://www.freelanderspecialist.com/category/freelander-2. Comes with a 24 month warranty. Very helpful and easy to deal with.

Just looking through their web site.
Odd,as a FL specialist, they state that the FL is a permanent 4 wheel drive.

They do seem to be very customer focused, quite rare these days.

The news just gets better. We have found what killed my haldex, a faulty ecu. Apparently it has been pressurising the clutch plates early/most of the time and basically seized the haldex. Glad to have found a cause so as not to destroy the newly fitted haldex, but not sure my wallet agrees

I am no expert, so I am only going on what the garage has passed onto me. They are land rover through and through and as trustworthy as you will find.

After fitting the new haldex and installing whatever the latest software is, they detected something was still not right and traced it to the ecu on the haldex. Any more than this I can't say. The haldex that came off was locked solid.

How did you find this and how did you know that the ECU is faulty?
And more of that how did you know when it is pressurizing the plates?

I am asking because a reconditioned diff without a new software for the Haldex will lead, eventually, to a new malfunction during time, no matter how big the bearings are (in the space allowed), because of this exact reason, a too soon and too long engaging of the Haldex...
There is a software update for Haldex, for exact this reason.

The car must have at least SSM46477 and Special Action Q106 applied.
Beware that although Q106 is for automatic transmission, it also includes a software update for Haldex, that it is easily and wrongfully omitted/dismissed for manuals...

Now I am going to have to "break out" the SDD again soon to check this! OCD is starting to kick in..........
