Tailgate earth strap

Hi all. I've just noticed the corroded/broken earth strap on the tailgate o/s hinge. Everything still works, so is this just a back up earth?
Thanks
Alan

I cleaned mine up and reinstalled it a few months back; I'd suggest replacing it, it's there for a reason. Make sure you keep it around the same length and configuration.

Yep, if you've got it as well, it must be standard and there for a reason. It's on the list of jobs to do.

The reason its there is ....... besides the high level brake lamp, the tailgate opening switch ........... its the HEATED REAR WINDOW that pulls maximum current.

I've managed to bodge the current strap and ordered a new one. Found a mention on another thread that it's to give additional earth as earth through the hinge may be inconsistent when well greased, which makes sense.
