Now on to the next problem.
A noise at tick over from alternator area. Disappears when revs increase. Pulley?
Coincidentally had service and MoT just less than 2 weeks ago.
Could high revving for emissions have caused this?
Oh the joys of LR ownership Big Cry
Just realised this probably shouldn’t be in this thread. Sorry.

Kage ^^^ if it’s a whistle/ whine type of noise, try lubricating the cam belt with a machine belt lubricant stick, cured mine before I was thinking water pump. The Peugeot engine is prone to this noise .

Thanks CED but it’s more of a clatter really. Inside the car it sounds as if there is a shroud or something loose which is vibrating.

Been getting the message 'start engine or system will shut down in 3 minutes' or something similar whenever doors open in last few days. Is this a sign that battery is on way out? I'd say its still the original at 6 1/2 years old. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Personally, I like the Costco Energizer H7 AGM...............price increased by $10 Cdn recently but it's a really good 60 month warranty then beyond.

Replaced my battery today with a Varta F19 today, upon the recommendation of this useful thread. Turns out I was still on the original Land Rover Exide battery which was coming to the end of it's life, as the car kept saying shutting down in 1 minute.

What I noticed though with the new Varta battery was it had two bungs, one at each end and a sticky label saying to remove them immediately after transportation, which I did. Now I know the one hole at the positive end is for the breather pipe, which I fitted but I wasn't show about the negative end, as my old battery doesn't appear to have a hole there, so I plugged that up again with a bung that was attached to the new batteries terminal protector caps. Is this the correct thing to of done please? Freelander 2 XS 2013

Could the clattering noise be the AC compressor. They get noisy when the refrigerant starts to get low, does the noise go away with the AC off? If not maybe the tensioner is on it's way out.

F19 Varta Silver Dynamic Car Battery 85Ah

Bought and fitted January 2019 so just two years old - not impressed right now.

Even making allowance for reduced usage of the car I wouldn’t expect to be getting the low battery / 3 minutes to armageddon followed by transmission fault / reduced traction messages. Took the car out today, everything switched of (lights, wipers, infotainment, heater fan) for a short run, get home, park, switch off, ignition on - low battery / reduced traction again.

Today, where I live at the top of a never gritted dead end hill, the snow programme would have been nice.
