If you are having the timing belt, water pump changed you might as well have the serpentine belt done at the same time. Include all tensioners and pulleys also front cam seals and front *crankshaft* seal.

I pulled the trigger now I'm...

OK . Reached a deal, but they won't do the 10 year service stuff as it's 9.5 years old... Although they'd give me cost price on the labour if interested. So, not worth getting.

The 10 year service stuff, do you mean timing belt etc? if so that changed to 7 years last year for SD4 so it is due now also mileage dropped from 150k to 120k miles, you may be ok on mileage but not on years. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

As Dartman has mentioned the service schedule for ALL freelanders changed to 7 years from 10 years for the belt change,
but this did not happen a year ago it happened when the SD4 came out so about 2010/2011 Rolling Eyes

so on the time scale its over due,

many with the TD4 decide to wait until 10 years but that does not change landrovers schedule which changed about 8 years ago
owners choice when they do it still remains Laughing

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

So I won't be renewing my LR Extended Warranty next year on my 14 plate SD4 XS with only 58k miles (at current rate of usage) unless I get the belt changed? Time to move on to something else in 2021 then. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

My understanding from the service manual is that ALL Diesels PRE 2012 were due a belt change at 10 years - autos included.
I'll start saving and checking out info for the most important things to do.
But I feel that Land Rover like other Makes is playing it safe. I'm sure that if your KMS are low and you are less than 10 years, you are fine. I don't think they'd give 10 years as the absolute late date. I'm on 82,000kms / 50,000 miles.

If I get a good deal on labour I'll get the timing belt and water pump done now.

riverblanche, I bought my car in 2013 as an ex LR car with 6k miles, the first service invoice had a service schedule with it and it stated then that it was 10 years and 150k miles, that was from a nationwide franchise main dealer, so either they weren't up to date or LR hadn't told everyone.
First I heard of the reduction was from Mikey last year and except on here it still seems to be a secret. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Hi,
I checked a reg number on LR's website over 2 years ago on a car we were looking at buying (not the one we did buy)
to see what was coming up and it said, 7 year service inc belts and that was about 2 years ago

It is a topic that comes up on a regular basis Rolling Eyes as for LR getting it wrong when you bought yours, that would not surprise Confused any chance it had a date on the paperwork?
as Mrsimon says Pre2012 is that when the SD4 came out, thought it was a bit earlier.

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic35777.ht...p;start=30

here is more reading from not long ago, it still boils down to the owner and if your buying its a bargain point as should be done at 7 years (worth mentioning for OP ) and if your selling its 10 years (garage says No) Laughing

such a lot is made of it but if you can do yourself your looking at £150ish and an indep £500ish so its not really the end of the world either way, its expected maintenance

Thumbs Up .

SD4 was introduced as MY2010 in September 2009 as auto only and has been ever since until it was stupidly made redundant in 2014. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

The SD4 was introduced in Sep 2010 MY2011, at the first FL2 facelift.

My first FL2 was an early SD4 example, I loved it so much that I bought another. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

No reason not to buy

I went back to give the car another check over. Especially underneath looking for any damage, rust, or leaks.

I couldn't find any except light rust around some pipes that connect to the fuel tank. It seems impeccable. No off road, no towing, no damage to the bodywork or the alloys...
too good to be true. Better not to buy it.
