Codes read would be a good place to start. First thought was turbo hose starting to go can be intermittent with powerloss at first, and can cause strange noises from turbo as here - https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic35802.html?highlight=turbo+hose |

No codes showing , just had a hose replaced from airbox which had split and was causing a weird noise , car runs sweet and pulls extremely well , just annoying as it's just had a replacement clutch/flywheel/rear main seal/front springs and rear discs and pads .

If you had a flap drop in your chamber you would know .it cost well over £1500 bent valves.if your not sure get the later inlet manifold fitted.before and damage. |

My 2007 car did the same as yours I.e. huge clatter from engine then no revs. One piece of swirl flap had broken off passed through the EGR valve and straight through the engine, one piece lodged in the EGR keeping it open. Engine very difficult to start and wouldn't run very well until EGR taken off and swirl flap removed.

Tried firing the Fl2 up today and it doesn't look promising , it won't turn over at all . It's only been stood a week and the battery is a good one . I'll update on the outcome of this .

Well it's made me a liar , the battery is dead so that's a bonus . Looks like another battery and time to say bye bye to the old girl .

I bought a 2008 SE with a misfire, and low compression on No2 cylinder, so was expecting an ingested port deactivation flap to be the culprit. However I found a nut in the combustion chamber

Am I right in thinking that a 2014 TD4 does NOT have the swirl flap system? or is this a failure I need to worry about (and pro-actively fix)? 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Take a look on the manifold cover, see what the clock pointer says, i presume the later ones came swirl flap free,

New battery fitted and the pipe from the airbox replaced and she's running like a dream now , nothing like the 153k which is on the clock . It looks as if it will be with us until the end now for what it's now worth and the cost to change for a Disco sport is way too much .

Great result bxzx16v, it does seem that many ills are cured with a new battery - well worth remembering & getting it checked as no1 diagnostic step 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic
