Engine oil change is a doddle i have done it six times since i purchased the FL2 in 2017, i change the oil on my cars, every six months regardless of the mileage i have covered.

I have purchased this tool which i think is a lot better than the 27mm ratchet spanner, which i hope to use in the next few weeks to do the winter oil change.

The tool its self becomes a ratchet when you insert a ratchet handle with or with out a bar, i can only hope there will be enough room for it to to turn once fitted onto the filter cap, hopefully the intercooler hose will not get in the way.

I find the 27mm swivel head ratchet spanner to be just perfect for the job. I wouldn’t have thought that there would be enough room to rotate that tool without moving stuff out of the way. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I reckon that tool will live in the tool box for ever more - can't see you getting that into the available space.

Well both ends look fixed to me, so if you get it on the filter, for each turn of available space you will have to lift it away, turn it back and then put it back on for the next turn.

Hi Guys reporting back on the tool Steve D you were correct not enough room to use the tool in the form shape it was, so i had to do a bit of modification on it, after that it fitted ok but could no longer be used as a ratchet effect, but it reaches the oil cap great, so a little more modification ie fit the ratchet from the 27mm spanner and i think it's game on for next time. Smile

Few photo of the tool below.

Under tray guard off.

Sump plug removed

Oil drained

New re-shaped tool in situ easy to grip and undo the cap, but no ratchet which i aim to solve.

cap ready to remove for new oil filter.

Cap off the care and old filter removed

Fit a new seal always and make sure its in the right groove.

Add new oil to the seal before fitting to the car.

Cap cleaned out new seal and new filter fitted ready to fix to the car.

Fitted back on the car will do another change in March i like to change the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage covered.

Tool in its original shape i spray painted silver so its easier to see under the car.

I managed to find the time today to sort out the the tool which did not have enough space to use until i reformed it, as above i could only use it a one turn remove and repeat to undo the oil cap.

So today i made a tool out of both the spanner above and the 27mm ratchet which was always that little bit short and was hard to move back and forth.

The result is this hybrid between both.

It will not see any action now until March 2021 when i changed my engine oil again ready for spring/summer.

why didnt just put an extension of some sort onto the 27mm ratchet spanner in the first place ? Jules

I didn't do that because i was hoping the new tool would do the job, it didn't Rolling Eyes so i cut the head off the ratchet spanner and combined the two Thumbs Up I am sure i will find a use for the 27mm open end of the spanner.

Im sure you'll find a use for it.
According to SWMBO I'm a dreadful hoarder of bits of car and and tools - but I do often find a use for things Ive stashed away - after a several years. Laughing Jules
