Hi everyone, all I can find on the maintenance part of my Haynes manual is "Final drive and Haldex coupling fluids - renewal" and I haven't even done this by myself yet.

I have a 2008 diesel with 125k km, can I simply go to a mechanic and ask him to clean the haldex and renew the oil? How much would land rover charge for this? (probably a lot less than a failling haldex.. Laughing
Sorry if this is a dumb question I knnow next to nothing about cars.

Bearing in mind you stated "I knnow next to nothing about cars."

The final drive / rear differential is a separate unit (taking the drive to the rear wheels) and is bolted onto the back of the Haldex unit.

Final drive / rear differential needs to be sucked empty via the fill hole (it has no drain plug) and then refilled with EP oil.

The Haldex needs to be removed to fully drain and fully clean it - removal is not very difficult, just time consuming as there is quite a bit of stuff that needs to be got out of the way,

The haldex has a replaceable filter (which I believe can be accessed without taking the unit off on early models with Gen 3 Haldex, but its awkward). There is also a non-replaceable pump filter which can be cleaned after the pump is removed - which again is awkward and can be done without taking the haldex off on early models.

The Haldex is refilled with special haldex oil once it reattached - getting the level right is important and requires some to be removed after its filled to the level plug hole.

Actually dismantling the haldex internals for cleaning can be done but is a big job and something I think most garages would not undertake.

I suspect Landrover will not be interested in dismantling and cleaning your haldex either - at best replacing the haldex oil and just maybe the haldex filter.

Id search for a specialist independent landrover garage - if there are any in Paris and see what they are prepared to undertake. Jules

Ive changed the oils for the engine, transfer box, auto-gear box, haldex and rear diff using the JLR manual.

As Jules has said ^ Thumbs Up edited his quote to mention just the Pump Filter the white plastic gauze type thing Whistle

if your doing your own maintenance its well worth cleaning this as well, not just doing the oil and removable filter
and
if your getting a garage to do it
make sure you mention you want the pump filter cleaning, as Jules has said some wont do this as you have more work to do, have just had ours serviced and said wanted it cleaning, (they dont normally do it Rolling Eyes )
when collected they said "a Good Call", as filter was getting gummed up (had a photo) and well worth doing

my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

Hi All,
thought I would add to post with a little update on my week laying under the “truck” Very Happy Very Happy

First had my Haldex off in 2014 @ approx. 70k and was glad that I had. You can see the reason in the following pics.






Now approaching 117k I thought it prudent to change oils and filter on the Haldex. Again I was glad I had decided to do so!
Less than 50k and the emulsified sludge and clutch debris collected was shocking. How could Land Rover not recommend this unit receive more regular service??

I Change out my Haldex oil out for the first time since i purchased my FL2 in 2017 i have no idea if it as been done before but i don.t think so, mileage is now 110,000.

This is what i found which to be honest is not that bad.

I had quite a fight to break the corrosion seal between the tow parts, so left it for the next day.

Pump off this is the residue inside not much really.

Gauze filter on the pump was not gunked up either.

That was soon cleaned up.

The filter it's self is very easy to remove once the pump is out of the way.

Not to bad inside the filter housing either.

Both the pump housing & filter housing were soon cleaned out, i am using this oil change as system flushing job come spring i will remove the Haldex from the car.

Filter back in

Oil back in and left to settle over night.

Next day Sun 8th Nov, engine started for 5 minutes so the oil can fill the filter and let the pump work, let it settle again then add another 120ml so the oil is dripping out.

Then i remove 70ml with a syringe

Wipe clean & add my magnets to the filler plug.

All done with the car up on ramps and level.

Over the last 5 days i have change out the gearbox oil, PTU oil, rear diff oil, & Haldex oil.

All sorted for the winter Very Happy

Classic over thinker Q? If you remove 70ml into the actual syringe, depending on the length of the plastic flex tubing, do you pump back in what's remaining in the tubing? I would............lol.

2009 model freelander 2 hse, although I changed all the orinks, the oil is leaking. The service inspected the hole, no cracks, no damage, but the oil leak continues. Is there someone who has a suggestion for me?
