This is what I do not understand, when its hot the Restricted Performance flashes up then when cooler air enters the air filter the warning goes off.

I have done about 300 miles this week motorway back roads etc but the weather is cooler. no warnings.

I have an ESSO fuel card and always use ESSO normally the posh stuff, but I am now going to try different fuel.

I had a high mileage VOLVO D5 that would not tick over properly on some fuels but ran fine on BP,MURCO & GULF

The LR passed its MOT last month and the guy at the test station said Tesco had bought ESSO don't know if that's true or not but a lot of Tesco garages have ESSO fuel so it could be rubbish supermarket fuel

Going onto BP, Shell etc for a while to see if it improves

Personally Im not convinced of the benefits of "super" fuels or branded fuels.

When the manufacturers of these more expensive fuels produce unbiased data to show the benefits then I'll take notice.

Maybe the data is out there, but they are not shouting about it so I conclude its inconclusive at best if it exists. Jules

I often wonder if these anecdotes about one fuel being better than another is more about the quality of individual filling stations rather than the fuels themselves. Jules

Hi All
Since the weather has cooled down my Freelander has returned to normal,no hesitation, no misfire, nothing wrong at all.

Tried my hardest to get it to miss even with granny starts but performed perfectly

Hope this continues, retuned 48 mpg on a run cruise set to 65mph.

Richard

Im a bit disappointed; set up Torque Pro to read both "EGR commanded" ( what the ECU wants I presume) and "EGR error" (what the ECU gets from the EGR valve I presume). But it turns out the OBD only supplies "EGR commanded" data and not error data. So its not much use really in determining if the valve is sticking.
So I have decided to hold off dismantling the EGR for the time being as Ive had no more reduced performance faults since that one time.

Doing a B service this week instead.

Time will tell if the problem returns.

Any finale to this story? I'm having EGR fault codes coming up on my 2013 SD4. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Hi Jules

Any update on your car I get similar warnings but not very often and very peculiar

Richard

For reasons unknown to me the fault has not reoccurred.
I've done nothing to the car, other than a service in Sept, and it has behaved fine since. It's not done a lot of miles but it started and drove perfectly in the recent cold weather.

So I happy to wait and see what happens between now and the cambelt etc change in Sept . Jules

From Carbon Cleaning web site:

"Carbon cleaning is not as such a fix, it’s original purpose is cleaning as a preventative measure as carbon build-up is the root cause of 85% of failure of components. If the component is simply clogged with carbon using not just our basic Hydrogen cleaning system but also our proprietary chemicals (that our competitors do not have access too) it is often possible to restore operation of some components such as an EGR valve. However, if the component has failed then of course cleaning cannot fix. If you have an engine management system fault or a component diagnosis we recommend speaking to your local technician to discuss success ratios and options."

So they don't say they can fix probs, only prevent them. Andy

I've just found a temp leak in the gasket between EGR and cooler. Looks like its sealed for the moment but as I am doing a major overhaul I am going to replace the EGR (LR000997) and gasket (LR000998).

Chances are that the EGR cooler need replacement as well so I am sturggling to find the part number for the late SD4 with dpf. Anyone has done this part already?
