LUK or more properly Jaguar Land Rover, don’t make bearings, so they would have bought in a bearing that meets the specifications that makes them the best margin, otherwise known as the cheapest! |

No surprise there at all... Same thing with car in for service and MoT test with a well known national LR dealership (Service Contract with 50% of normal price MoT test). Service done & late in the day they call to say all done but MoT fail on brake discs but don't worry sir, we can do the discs and pads while we have the car and you’ll pass the MoT and get the car back today. That'll be £silly money, Cheers Easy. The existing discs were fine and the pads were not far from new. I let them fail it, Made the complaint and was told that it was what the technician saw on the day. For that, they lost a three year service contract sale which was due for renewal following the service that the car was in for and they lost a regular customer. When car sales are slow the workshop has to contribute more by whatever means they can... fictitious faults entailing costly repairs are an easy source of revenue. |

This kind of carry on is not confined to LR they are all at it, I had the misfortune to work in the Car industry for a short while and was shocked at the contempt that the dealerships hold for the customers, I once heard a salesman bragging with great pride to the other sales people how he had worked a terrible finance deal into a customer needless to say I left and went back to the Motorcycle industry where on the whole the staff tend to be far less cynical and nasty.

At a well known firm of tyre fitters I was told my Citroen BX needed new shock absorbers as they do to all customers. He said shock absorbers although they are nothing of the sort, they are dampers. Anyway, I asked him for a price to fit them all round and if he would fit genuine Citroen "shock absorbers". He did look at his parts lists but somehow failed to find the parts but wouldn't accept that the Citroen hydraulic suspension system doesn't have either shock absorbers or dampers and tried to fob me off by claiming the parts had been discontinued.

I’d tell them to take it as it is at the original price (or the “perfect” price) or I would walk, it’s just a dealer’s scam. Regards David Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me...... Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again...... |
