My 07 HSE is not getting any younger, I have been trying to find cars I may like on autotrader, other than a newer FL2

I have never seen a car get such a positive driving review . .

Service intervals ( I believe) every 2 years, also, depending on which version, very low road tax maybe £30 and 50mpg possible (?) !

Yes, I had an XE diesel as a loan car while my Freelander was in for service.

Didn’t like it at all.

Firstly it is far too cramped, especially in the rear.

Secondly, it’s unpleasant inside (but the one I drove was low spec).

Thirdly, and I know it gets high praise for handling, but I found it too “front-endy”. The steering is quick and that gives the impression of good turn in and makes you think it is super responsive, but I found the handling balance was not to my liking.

You can only feel the front end darting around. It’s an artificial feel and doesn’t flow like a well balanced car. (And I’ve run a Lotus Elise and Caterhams for years so don’t mind direct steering).

There is a reason it’s not selling well and will probably be dropped soon by JLR.

Buy, Shortlist, Consider, Avoid? … I’d take a long test drive, and also be driven in the back for a few miles before you consider it. For me it is an avoid.

Friend has one; only been a passenger but with slightly dodgy hips found it a bloody nightmare to get in and out due to sloping roofline at the A pillar. Mind you it was comfortable when finally in.
Perhaps if you're smaller (I'm 6:2, 19stone) it wouldn't present such a problem but for that reason alone I couldn't own one

Had an XE R design diesel as a courtesy car for a day. As above, very low not the easiest to get in and out of. Nice driving car, very responsive and an easy 50+ mpg on the trip computer. It didn't feel very 'special as jaguars of old did, its no XJ6 and a bit bland looking too. A nice spec mondeo would match it easily. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
