The original fuel cap on my FL2 also had the same problem, huge 'whoosh' when the cap was released, sometimes needed a bit of effort just to release the cap. Bought another fuel cap and problem solved. The only difference that I could see between the two was that the new cap had purple coloured pastic around the centre piece 11 GS Bali Blue

I did think of fuel filter, is a LR fuel filter changed some 20k ago. If the filter was causing it why the vacuum sounding effect? |

Find odd never had the problem before until filling up fully the other day. I would have thought the filler cap has a small vent hole to prevent a vacuum build up but I cannot see one. |

Almost certainly the filler cap valve is not doing it’s job.

I have a petrol engine & the pump & filter are in the tank, which I think gets changed at 90,000km. The fuel cap has always made a solid in rush of air everytime I take it off. I have noticed that with a lot of dusty outback roads some of the dust has worked its way through the fuel filter cap, so it might need cleaning.

Just read lots of info almost certailny the cap methinks. It looks spotless but will remove and give a once over Just so it does not happen for now just lodged the cap on the neck and shur the outer flap, so def no vacuum going to arise. |

Was okay for a couple of days did around 50 odd miles then started cutting out. Managed to get home. Would not start, turns over ok, with reduced endgine performance warning. No OBD codes. Evenyually out of the blue started and ran okay. Other posts mention crankshaft position sensor but I would have thought if that was faulty would not be intermittent.

Well after changing filter still got problems. After changing filter went for a spin. It lasted about 1/2 mile then just cut out. Restarting turns over but that is it. Took fuel tank supply hose off turned her over no sign of diesel. Try a few more times , starts I get home keep her running then remove fuel supply hose plenty of fuel coming out. So we diagnose this as a faulty fuel pump? I would not but I am no expert. So on getting back home leave her idling and she cuts out after 10 minutes. Restarted and has now been idling for over an hour. |

There are 2 fuel pumps. One in the tank moving fuel from one side of the saddle tank to the other. It only keeps the tank end of the fuel line submerged in fuel.

Only ever used the LR filter . Anyway yesterday did 10 miles in the evening and another 20 odd just now with no problem. All the time with fuel cap just resting on opening now screwed down the 3 clicks. I must now put that on and see if problem occurs. If it does new filler cap needed. |
