Anyone had a ceramic coating applied to their car? If done correctly it lasts for a few years apparently and is superior to wax in terms of water and dirt repellency.

I did mine last year with Hydrolex it’s a budget range coating. To apply you have to be lucky with the weather as it must be kept dry for 4 hours after application. The key is prep a good deep clean of the paint is needed. I did it once last year then 2 weeks later did a second coat it’s literally wipe on wipe off and buff the shine is incredible and a year on its beading like I did it last week. Bird crap doesn’t seem to stick as much and the car is so easy to rinse off with a hose and wash. |

Don't these products emerge every so often at a higher price and different name, I remember back in the 80's there was Diamond Bright/ Hard or something similar which was very effective, used it on my yacht and it kept the peat stains at bay in the loch, a friend with the same model and colour had definite stains on about the waterline, used it on the car without any special preparation and it lasted a good six months. All of a sudden it disappeared from the general market and became a trade application only. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

If it's anything like my so-called "non-stick" ceramic frying pan, there's no danger of that happening. Steve 2008 TD4 HSE Auto, Zermatt Silver |

Just buy a product called "Beadmaker" and claybar the vehicle before. Cheap and a decent choir. |

To do a ceramic coating correctly the car would require a full paintwork decontamination followed by a full paintwork correction then applied properly.

At all the times Ive sold vehicles privately or through part-exchange nobody has ever asked how do I wash the car, let alone does it have any fancy coating.
