From Jame's post back on page 7:

For the illumination I took this from the plain brown wire that goes to the hazard light, door locking plug you unclipped to get the dashboard central bit off. This has a strange landrover join in it (just wrapped in duckt tape under the loom tape!), where it goes to several more plain brown wires.
The signal only works however if you have the dimmer set to slightly past the central position (otherwise I guess the voltage is too low to trigger the sensing circuit in the xtrons). If this bothers you then you'd need to get the signal from the light cluster I guess (unless the dimmer swtich is just a variable resistor in which case you might get it from the dimmer it self).

I haven't tried this yet, I don't know if this will make it go any dimmer than the dimmest setting anyway.

Thanks MrC, I did see that post but was more hoping that it someone could tell me that they’d plugged the unit in and it had worked. Looks like I’m going to be taking some wires apart! Big Cry

Xtrons battery drain

Hi

Anyone experienced a battery drain. Have fitted the unit, which is very good but drains the battery. Pull .580 amps when all shutdown. Have now wired the constant live, the memory to the acc which cures the problem but ofcourse the unit forgets. Had the sat nav in before which I removed fitted the most shunt and all was well. Any thoughts please

Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,
That doesn't seem right, I've had mine fitted for around two years and it hasn't done this. I can't think what might cause this but it seems like it isn't completely shutting down when the accessory feed is off although half an amp is a lot to draw from the battery feed so maybe there is a fault in the unit.
Sorry i can't be of more help than that and I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.
Cheers, Peter

Factory settings (PB78DLRPL)

Hi,
I have installed a PB78DLRPL Android 8 in my FL2.
Which type of BT do I select in Factory Settings – App ?
At that place there is also a tab “Canbus”, do I have to change something there ?
Cheers,
Thessa

@stickmanley - I've no proof but I suspect something like that is going on with mine. I'm driving a '09 TD4.e with start/stop. I replaced the original battery back in January when I bought the car and the stop/start worked for a while. Since fitting the head unit it's stopped again.

Hi. Contacted Xtrons. They sent me a new loom. Problem solved. No battery issues and down to 0.019 amps draw when off. So good result

Mike, out of curiosity did you buy via their .co.uk website or via eBay?

Have heard elsewhere that permanent live and switched live are reversed on some wiring looms.

Mine was ok though Andy

Can this Xtrons unit be set up with Apple CarPlay?

Sorry to drop on this late reply - just wanted to mention that it is possible to use Apple CarPlay with the Xtrons unit. There is a toggle in Factory Settings to turn it off or on, but mine was already set to 'yes'.

I purchased a CarPlay adapter from eBay, and this does work with the unit (however having issues with voice, but I may update here on this) For Sale: 2012 Freelander 2 GS (https://www.freel2.com/forum/post431941.html)

Hi guys,

I've had an Xtrons unit in for a couple of weeks now - using with the AGAMA launcher and CarPlay and it's been great, however I've come across a few issues:

  • Every time I turn the car on it takes 20 seconds for the unit to boot up..isn't it meant to always be on/fastboot? Someone mentioned above that the wiring can be the wrong way round, would this be what I am facing?

  • The display itself seems to be too large for the box it sits in, whatever is on the screen seems to bleed off the edges meaning I can't see some content - are others facing this issue?

  • My unit seems to sit too low in the box, and I can see the plastic container of the unit - does anyone else have this issue?

I want to stress that this is 1000% better than what I had before, and I am really happy with it, I just would love to get the above points rectified.. For Sale: 2012 Freelander 2 GS (https://www.freel2.com/forum/post431941.html)
