United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Orkney Grey
Terrain Response

30 miles into a 45 mile cross country journey and a warning flashes up saying (from memory) TR not working and the light illuminating the function went out. Pressed ok to clear but yellow warning symbol stayed on the screen. Arrived at my destination and spent the day afloat on Chew Valley lake fly fishing and returned to shore some 9 hours later. Car started ok with everything as it should be and no problems 2 days later. Was this just a phantom glitch or perhaps a battery reaching the end of its days. Any suggestions? MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

My 64 plate did exactly the same thing several times over a period of 3 months. Always reset itself when I pulled over 2 miles up the road, turned engine off and restarted fine not to be repeated for weeks.
First hint of a frost and the battery failed, no starting issues at all up to that point.
Tested battery and it was down so replaced with a new battery and never had any problems since so I would just splash out on a decent battery before anything else.

Definitely worth checking the battery. There are lots of posts regarding symptoms of a battery on its way out if you search, in particular around traction control etc.

I change my battery routinely at 5 years rather than waiting for it to fail. I reckon that is a worthwhile preventative measure.

This happened to me once a few months ago, but has never repeated so far.

It occurred after accelerating quickly from lights, and then still accelerating hard round a corner in the wet.
After being left overnight the fault cleared.
I have since replaced the battery.

Also I read on here that when starting and stop the engine, you should hold the start button in for a second, rather than just poking it and not waiting.

Not sure if related, I got a "gearbox fault" message and TR would not work, turns out the haldex pump screen filter was approx 50% blocked, new fluid and filter and cleaning of pump screen seems to have fixed it and havent seen the message since. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
