When car goes in for service do they automatically look for update bulletins or wait until it's out of warranty so they can charge?

Bad show if that's the case Censored

They certainly do not!

they said unless you specifically asked them to check for anything in relation to GB
they don't
as well as adding the Cost for the LTB to be completed is Ā£194

Also to Add I called

they must be doing well or have no interest unless you are spending lots of Ā£Ā£

Indie could not carry out the work
as SW not available to them for Gearbox

So appears to be Main dealer only.

Just an update then on my trip to the main dealers.
According to Hatfields It seems that the bulletin Grumsel kindly posted isn't an official LR update. This is something that Landrover have put together following feedback from various technicians across the country who've encountered this problem. It still sounds like an update to me. But hey ho.
The upshot of this is that it was going to need investigation which involves diagnostics, auto box fluid check and then carrying out the necessary changes (read updates), before a road test where they would do something called 'adaptations'. Which apparently means teaching the gearbox when to change. This would all entail 2 hours labour. I should've known it wouldn't be simple.
Anyway I felt I didn't have much option really. Oh! They did offer a complimentary valet inside and out. Too bad I'd only just done it that morning.
The whole thing took a bit more than two hours because the road test took longer than expected, but they stuck to the 2 hours labour. Including VAT it came to Ā£336! Sad
Driving home was like being in a different car. The box is absolutely silky smooth. Gear changes are for the most part imperceptible. So while it cost more than I expected, it has been worth it to get the car to this stage. It just feels so nice to drive now. And I can sit at lights, in Drive, and pull away without that jolt which was what the whole thing was about really.
Oh. And I had a courtesy call this morning from Hatfields to make sure that everything was okay. Very Happy
Something in the diagnostics was a bit odd but I'll post that separately as it's nothing to do with this issue.
Hope this helps somebody out

I took car into Taunton LR today
as they Quoted 1hr labour to do the LTB
Ā£162

dropped off at 1145AM
courtesy Evoque 2019 model
collected car at 1700
gear changes back to seamless and no jolts in traffic queues.
More than I wanted to spend for something I think should have been done at Services previously
but at least I am not worried Gearbox is on the way out.

You have to wonder how they get and keep customers at those prices - I thought this was a software update, what labours involved? Plug in computer, leave to run, unplug. Prepare invoice. Rub hands together. Laugh.

FWIW I recently did an ATF exchange. The FL2 is 5 years old (40K miles) and I did it as preventative maintenance; replacing about 92% of the original ATF through multiple exchanges.

I have to say the gear changes are noticeably smoother. It was not bad beforehand so the improvement was unexpected. Jules

Joined the forum just for this thread. Iā€™ve had my SD4 for around 12 months and suffered the gearbox jolt problem since I had it. Assumed it may be bad oil etc, I donā€™t use it often enough to worry about it. Iā€™ve been driving it more recently since my son has been in hospital and itā€™s p*****g me off hence ending up here.
After looking through this thread I called the stealers in Derby and gave them my VIN, they said the car doesnā€™t have any recalls or bulletins and would have to have diagnostics and there would be a charge.
Is this something I can get an independent to carry out (apologies if itā€™s been covered Iā€™ve not read all 6 pages) or does it have to be ā€˜diagnosed and repairedā€™ by LR?
Thanks, Sam.

You'll be able to get it done at an indy provided they've got dealer-level diagnostics software. The actual update cost me Ā£80 from my local independent.

Mine did it also ... sometimes when cold but always when very hot on trafic jam, and only from N to D or when I release the brake pedal ...

Problem solved with software update
