The front socket in the centre console doesn’t work on my 64 reg FL2, in fact it hasn’t worked since I bought it last month.

According to the the wiring diagram I think it is Fuse FE45? There is fuse F45 in the engine compartment but that’s only a 5 amp fuse. I can’t read any fuse number locations on the fuse box in the boot, there are 4 No. 15 amps fuses in a row but I can’t identify any of them.

I can’t even find the fuse box that’s supposed to be in the passenger footwell?

Can anyone help please? The 12 volt socket in question is the front one which I believe is connected to the ignition circuit.

There is a panel underneath the glove compartment and above the area where normal passengers put their feet.

Just been reading some more, I think Fuse FE45 is up to 2012 models? I think I need Fuse F52 which as you say is in the passenger footwell (somewhere)!

Is it accessible without dropping the glove compartment?

Found and replaced the blown fuse so the socket is working.

One thing though, I thought the front socket only worked with the ignition on? I was hoping that it would work via the ignition as I want to use it for my dash cam, otherwise I will have to manually unplug it from the socket at the end of every journey?

Front socket only works with the ignition on...........if your socket is always on (I am assuming from your comment above?) it's been rewired or I would investigate further why the fuse blew in the first place.

I would imagine the fuse blown due to something metallic coming into contact with the socket while the socket was empty? If the previous owner has kept keys in the centre console, one of the keys could have easily slipped into the socket and fused it.

The front socket on mine (07) is switched by the ignition but stays live for 6-10 seconds after removing the key fob and then powers down.

You have to be a contortionist not to take the glovebox out.

Front power socket is definitely permanently on. I don’t know why, perhaps the previous owner had it re-wired that way for some reason?

^^^Time to break out the multimeter.....not my area of expertise. Get a cover for it for now.

Both front and rear sockets in the centre console still have their plug in covers, so there’s little danger of accidentally shorting them out.

Hi , just a thought , is it possible someone has wired the front socket directly to the rear socket which is definitely always live . Maybe the original wiring is lying redundant under the front socket and that would mean the fuse you replaced is doing nothing .

They must be separate as the rear one was already working. The fuse had definitely blown and on replacing the fuse the front one works as well now, albeit permanently on.

The previous owner must have had it re-wired somehow but it can’t be on the same circuit as the one behind it as it has its own fuse.
