Tailgate open message

I've had a couple of occasions recently when the car thinks the tailgate is open - ie horn sounds when trying to lock the car and "tailgate open" message displayed on screen. This was despite the tailgate not having been opened for several days.

On both occasions just opening the tailgate and slamming it again has cleared the problem but clearly there's an issue. I thought there must be a micro-switch somewhere that either needs adjusting or replacing, but I can't see one! Maybe it's built into the latch mechanism?

Any ideas?

Latch has micro switch which sends an “ajar” message to the cjb.
Replace latch is only repair as latch is not serviceable. MY15

You can laugh all you want, but I also have in this moment inside the latch a micro switch from an old mouse.
And it was changes about 5 years ago and still going strong... Very Happy

Is this the microswitch in the handle that opens the door, or a different one? I already replaced the switch in the handle last year.

Then, it's the switch from the latch/door motor...

RogB, we both said OLD mouse... The switches were bigger and sturdier, like they used to build.... No wireless mice on that period.
But come to think, I have wireless boot opening. On my remote. Laughing Laughing

2015 latch is completely sealed, riveted shut and releasing the 4 rivets would completely disable the latch assembly.
I’m guessing the post 2013 latch is far more complex as they are a different p’n to earlier models.
But if there’s no picture then I’m still Rolling with laughter MY15

I don’t see the point of saying “I’ve done this” without either explaining the process or offering pictures to illustrate considering the op’s request for information.
Based on post MY13 latch which can can have up to 2 micro switches depending on p’n I can’t see how It’s possible to dismantle.
Possibly pre MY13 latch is possible so maybe you should share with the threads opening request for information. MY15

Appreciate advice as I'm stuck. Recently bought a new tailgate lock and lots of drama having to get the door open to replace it. That was about 3 weeks ago and all good. Now I have the message popping up that Tailgate is open which of course means I cannot lock the vehicle. Lock works perfectly fine opening and locking etc. Just can't get rid of this message to enable doors/alarms to be set.

I have checked for obstructions and cleaned around doors seals. Door seem to close fine. I have replaced fuse and even disconnected battery. Had door lock off and cleaned.

No joy and I have no idea where to go from here. Any ideas?

For all the cost of the entire new switch and loom assembly, about £20, I wouldnt be bothered messing about and soldering old micro switches! Whistle Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I replaced all this last year when I had problems with corrosion and not working. Do you think that is the problem here again.

Nothing wrong with the switch. Took it all off the door, fully checked and put back. Works fine. Where is the sensor that signals door open/locked.
