EPBwas it around 2010

Hi, anyone know when EPB ( electric parking brake ) was introduced on the FL2? was it around 2010?

No it was MY2013 so late 62 plate onwards

with the facelift dashboard and front/rear lights

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Firenze Red

In many ways its a lot more simple than the mechanical handbrake - just an electric motor on the back of the caliper. Much easier to only change pads and disks with the EPB - just put it in "service mode" and then work on the brakes.

Do you know how to activate the "Service mode" ? Jules

until it goes wrong,wont come off,motor strips.

Do you think part of the problem is people with automatics sometimes dont bother with the hand brake and just leave the car in P and though lack of use the EPB jams up ? Jules

You can do it without a reader if you search the forum, as I remember seeing it on here.

A cheap reader is unlikely to do it.

More than likely, as the foot handbrake on my Mercedes starts to seize up if not used.

No, Reader is not the way.

Putting electric hand brake into service mode before changing pads.
Procedure is: 

Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on. 

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position. 

2. Wait 2 seconds 

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position. 

4. Wait 2 seconds 

5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle. 

6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash. 

You will hear the brake motors activate for a while. 

Deactivation 

with ignition on. 

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position. 

2. Wait 2 seconds 

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position. 

4. Wait 2 seconds 

5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle. Jules
