Headunit Reloaded

I, like many people, have looked at replacing my midline head unit with something more up to date, and then decided that it's too costly and involved to be worth it.

I have also looked at the options of fitting a tablet in the cubby, as have lots of other people. But a standalone tablet that just does mapping isn't a huge win for me.

I've just found an Android app called Headunit Reloaded. It's basically a way to get Android Auto running on a tablet, connected to your phone.

I've been tinkering with it and it's pretty decent. At the moment, when my phone connects to the cars Bluetooth, it kick starts the process which then makes my phone look for the tablet. Once connected (via WiFi, no cables, although you can use USB) Android Auto starts on the tablet. Few little niggles to sort but it works. I can control Spotify, my phone, Google Maps etc from the tablet, which then runs back to my phone, as would a real head unit running Android Auto would.

Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Big questionmark for me is fitting the tablet to make it look factory... if that's easily done then I'd be tempted over a Xtrons

You'd need to fit whatever tablet you chose the way others have done, and you'd need to cut small holes in the cubby for the cables, but many have done it and it looks slick. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
