Sunroof operation fault

I am a first time Freelander owner (many many other landrovers tho!) and picked my 07 i6 up yesterday, it's great! Drives so well and everything works...apart from the sunroof, which only moves if you keep the switch depressed, in the book it says you should press and release and it opens/closes automatically. Also when closing I have noticed it goes beyond closed to slightly open at the rear, I can press the open but for a second which seems to get it back to fully closed. Can't imagine this is how it should function as I almost have to guess when it is fully closed!!!

Thanks for your reply, I did see the reset instructions in the book and tried that...but it says to hold the button for 20secs and sunroof will start opening etc but as soon as I touched the button it started moving and by the end of the 20 seconds had opened closed tilted and whatever else it can do but not reset!

Exactly the same problem I've had with my i6 sunroof since I've had it ! No matter what I've tried, it doesn't work and I've got quite adept at letting go of the button just as it shuts ! However, there are times when it seems like it's closed and sealed, but it sometimes leaks if you don't get it exactly right.

ive had this fault ,took me nearly a year to find the answer!!,im in the trade and went nationally to get help from different contacts.....the alloy runners are coated in plastic ,the alloy swells under the plastic coating causing a resistance, which the body control senses, and stops the auto close, the cure for mine was new runners, lucky for me it had a used warranty, otherwise dealers want £1500,or more.hope this helps, you should be able to see the swollen runners

Thanks for that, I have found if you lean in and press the button while looking at the sunroof from the top it's easier to guage when properly shut! Don't you just love landrovers!!! But better than my D2 which just plain leaks!!

Ok that sounds like it could cause the issue, as believe they are designed to sense obstructions, bought from landrover with one years warranty but should imagine there are many loop holes so will read the small print!

if the fault was there from the day you got it they cant say its wear and tear, there is a thread on your consumer rights on here some where, and if the fault was there from purchase day there is no time limit for a claim, but of course you have to prove it.i think im right.

also there will be fault codes, but they only give the symptoms, not the cure.

OK, had this exact issue when I purchased the 2008 i6 seventeen months ago........tried the vehicle manual reset, no go. Used JLR SDD v130 software with a Mongoose programmer, software recalibrated the sunroof and solved the issue. Of course, now that I have posted this, we shall see.............. Twisted Evil .

Thanks, my friend is a local LR specialist and he is going to rust proof the underneath soon so will ask him to look into fault codes etc as he will have the right gear to do that.

Also is it just coincidence that three of us on this topic are i6 owners!!!!!? Can't believe the sunroof is any different to diesels.

Well, I found something interesting . The runner attached to the glass panel is broken in several places. There was even some loose plastic at the front of the channel in the pic. This is on both sides of the vehicle, the n/s has a piece of plastic broken off and floating around too.
If you apply slight upward force to the lower broken part of the channel in the picture, it moves really easily, suggesting it's not far from breaking off completely.
