Power steering fluid capacity

Morning men, I am going to replace the power steering reservoir & fluid as the steering has become heavy during parking & very low speed I have a few questions

1. How much fluid will I require

2. What spec fluid to use

Thank you for any advice/help

Jack.

Fuchs Pentosin CHF202 is what JLR recommend and what I used.

But I didnt drain and refill so I dont know how much you'll need. Will try and look it up. Jules

Bought the same fluid from my local Volvo dealership. About half the price of the land rover badged fluid.

Just FYI

The Fuchs Pentosin I bought some time ago and since then have used Smith and Allan products for all my vehicle lubrication needs (apart from haldex oil)

Ive just discovered that Smith & Allan do "CHF LLS" which meets 11s and 202 specifications. And is very reasonably priced.

I had a noisy steering, especially when the engine was cold and when the wheel was turned from lock to lock. Then, according to the info I obtained in this forum, I decided to change the reservoir and the oil.

During the process I realised that the reservoir was filled up with a red oil, perhaps a cheaper ATF fluid.

Since the old fluid was brownish red, I was able to make sure full flush was achieved, which means I continued till I got clean green chf202 fluid. However, this was achieved just as I finished a 1-liter bottle. Still, I continued for another half a liter but the color didnt change any more so I stopped.

It was mentioned previously that Lr recommends a 4-liter flush, but I was able to complete the procedure with 1,5 liters.

The noise has gone.
Steering is now a little bit lighter.
No leaks.

Do you think I missed somethig? If not I would like to advise those who are up to a full flush that they don't need to buy more than 2 liters. Chf is not a cheap stuff.

1.5L sounds about right to me - mine was burnt red as well when i got her, so very easy to see when the fresh green oil was coming through.

I kept an eye on it and did the fluid again about 6 months later, with noticable darkening to the fluid. Guess the rack just cleaning out it's nooks and crannies. Been good since, but one i'll have a look at reguarly as rack is one of the big ticket items I want to avoid having to replace, and am aware she's been abused a bit in the past.
