its funny how different we are, I hate crowds and people, therefore I would NEVER dream of going anywhere on a Bank Holiday. This social distancing is nothing new to me, done it for years, no bother to me. . . Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Can’t you borrow a big tin shed, park it in the sun and sleep in that overnight? How about a watering can for a shower and a bucket of blue water to poo in - that’ll at least be a consolation for what you’re missing. Whistle Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Just drink the wine at home,
For a more realistic experience avoid your sofa and sit on a deck chair, nail your bathroom door shut and put your porta potty in the garage. At work
At home

I just don’t get the caravan thing. Must like my home comforts too much. I think it comes from spending a fortnight in a caravan one weekend. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Everybody to there own, I would hate staying in a B&B or hotel, prefer to do what we like when we like even if we could afford a hotel for 8 or 9 weeks a year let alone the cost of traveling abroad(pre covid19)!
Our van cost us £6.250 we will keep it for at least 10 years so that's £625 a year plus £900 in site fees, £100 in servicing and £225 in insurance, so £1850 per year (don't include the car as we would have it even if no longer towing) or £33 per night. No contest in my opioin, but I don't judge other people for using hotels, B&B etc. Common sense isn't very common.

We do both types of getaways. Posh hotels far away, (or slightly less posh short haul) and we just love to get out in the countryside for a long weekend with a... yes, really... a tent! To be fair, it does have electricity, carpets, kitchen, wardrobes etc and the missus will not go to a site without sumptuous loos and showers.

Really wanted to take the freely away camping a lot this year as I can get a lot more in it than other cars I have camped with in recent years - Rav4, DS3 and a Corvette C5! Admittedly, I left a fair bit behind (including the other half) when I took the Vette.

We were taking the freely to Spain in April (to a Villa) to do a lot of running around the Valencian and Murcia inland and off-road areas, but I guess it will be no surprise to you all that it was cancelled.

A camping trip would do me very nicely just now.

I feel everyone's pain. Similarly, my wife and I would have normally visited Spain at Easter to our caravan of 38 years on the beautiful Costa Brava; the site is only open from Easter to end of Sept because it's chilly in the winter up-north. Back home for Apr/May and then return NOW for the whole of summer (excl August during the mad season) so effectively live in the van for 4 months. The 4k euro annual fee is effectively mitigated by cheaper supermarkets, fuel, restaurants, beer and wine. Plus whilst there, we don't pay utility daily use at home. Doubly miffed because not only can we not visit, but even when the Covid panic is over, my wife being on the "extreme-vulnerable" list, will not be able to travel until a vaccine is available throughout Europe.
On the plus side, we're seeing our garden and countryside that we've not appreciated for years, and are heavily investing in bedding plants and lawn nurturing for a delightful English Summer.
