Hi all, new to this site. Owned an 07 HSE in Baltic Blue for a while now. Still love it even after all the expensive repairs.

I’m needing new tyres soon & alloys need refurbed - so was thinking of getting a set with minimal use off eBay for cheaper than tarting mine up, and using them for summer and my old ones for winter.

Seen a set of Velar 19” in grey, fitted with Conti’s with less than 500miles use for cheaper than the tyres would cost new, they have the same PCD (5x108) but increase the offset by 10mm (ET45). Also the tyres are 255/55/19. Mine are currently 235/60/18.

I have seen quite a few with Evoque/DS wheels fitted.. Just wondering if the bigger tyres / increased offset will have any major effects on my FL2? Not too concerned about a slightly inaccurate speedo reading.

I know a chap who has 20" Velar alloys on his FL2, no problems as far as I know. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

If memory serves, that's the correct bolt pattern. Just confirm the hub specs.....the increased offset will add to stability. I'd say you are good to go!

On Friday I Fitted the 19” Velar wheels in Satin Grey with 9mm Continentals, pretty pleased with my purchase for £500 all in. They look meatier and fill the wheel arches better in my opinion, but I will be keeping the 18s for winter.

Took her for a little drive today for our daily dose of exercise / dog walk, so here’s a pic..
(Anyone got any tips for stopping birds s***ing on it, other than a garage )

Just up to the local National Trust woods, where we walked a couple of miles. Cars need exercise too!

I am surprised that the Velar wheels appear so big compared with factory fit 19 inch, is it the larger offset, or a trick of the light?

I’m not really sure, they did seem to look bigger in the woods than they do on my drive! Wouldn’t have thought the 10mm increase in offset would have such an effect to the eye. Maybe just iPhone camera or trick of the light as you said.

Thanks MotionInc, you could be right. These are 255/55/19, not the recommended tyre size for FL2 I believe, but from my research found that they fit without issue, and I wanted a chunkier look as I think the 235/60/18 look a bit small from behind! A slightly inaccurate speedo doesn’t really concern me.
I will be tyre shopping again in October time I imagine for some winters for the 18s, never ending isn’t it

255/55R19 are the same rolling size as the 255/60R18 on my car. The Speedo on my car is about 2kph under based on GPS, so a bit closer to reality than before.

Freelander doesn't use 255 as standard as this increases fuel usage which in turn affects the various efficiency ratings of the car & therefore taxes & the like.

Last year going around Australia with 255 as against the previous year with 235 I did notice a small in fuel usage. Probably some due to tread pattern & some due to the extra width.
