United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Bit of an update.
Plastic and wood wedge's didn't work, not enough space to work.
Going to try and get the Diff out today and work on the complete unit on the ground.

On the positive side the sun is shinning again. Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

"but will perceiver now I have all round access"

You can try using "the force", it might work, but its worth persevering with. Probably been a long day. Wink

Hi Shaggsy.
You are too late, Starwars day was Monday, "May the Fourth be with.you" Thumbs Up

Anyway, diff and haldex on the bench. I have managed to separate them bit of a Censored though. Still had to use various tools including a very thin bolster chisel as it was stuck all the way on the flange.

Now its out and busy cleaning its it very good condition. Oil was dirty, pump filter had a small amount of crud on it but other than that very little dirt. Hard to tell what the disposable filter is like without cutting it open.

Just drying off some of the bits now then I think its time for tea. Smile

What an epic baattle that was!
Well done for perservering, really good clean up on the mating faces and some grease to make it not seize on next time. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Thanks for the encouragement Bob.

Just waiting for a new O ring to arrive before putting it back together.

Do you think a smear of grease will do the trick or should I be looking for something else.

Where the two faces meet I've cleared up but due to the way I had to dismantled it the edges are a bit raggy in places. I was thinking of a very thin smear of silicone sealant at the outer edge just to keep the salt out.
What do you think. Question Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

You have to look at it this way.
Life is a learning curve and if you own a Landrover it can be very steep at times. Laughing

Haldex and Diff still on the bench, waiting for the o- ring.

It will be very shiny though when it does go back together. Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Assume you'll change diff oil while its out? Have you considered the diff drain plug mod?
