LR have started advertising the Hybrid DS and Evoques. 1.5 litre petrol hybrids. I am not sure of the benefit as the sale of hybrids will have to stop in 12 years anyway and is going to start hitting residuals in the same way as conventional ICEs. However, one interesting feature is that the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor so no more Haldex and rear diff bearing issues.

I would guess these will be aimed at the company car market, as a hybrid will have lower BIK tax to the user that does not want to go full electric. |

I guess 12 years is a long time not to have a hybrid model when so many manufacturers are doing it already. JLR seem to be very behind the curve when it comes to any form of electrification or any other form of of technology such as fuel cell. |

No, it doesn’t......LR announced even when the battery is depleted the Hybrid technology will still allow the rear wheels to drive, because it is a LR and 4WD is their bread and butter.....well not in so many words

I disagree. There is still a big market for hybrid vehicles for business users, and that is the gap that JLR are hoping to cash in on. Pure electric is still a few years away until it has enough range for business use. The public charging network is nowhere near good enough. |

I still think that the aswer to electric vehicles is a standard battery pack that can be removed and replaced with a charged pack, though it would need some form of lease contract or a cost higher than just a normal charge. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Its actually a really nice car to drive. Even if the one I always ended up with was baby blue in colour. |

PHEV cars normal reserve/replace some battery power to cope with acceleration and inclines. If you read PHEV Forums you will see that they advise saving/charging some extra battery energy to help you get up long hills easily, especially if towing. If you do run out of battery charge uphill you will be limited to the amount of power that the engine can provide, in LR's case this doesn't look too bad, although it may be a bit noisy as it revs. Also I don't believe it is true LR 4 wheel drive as each axle has it's own torque limitation, and all the available power cannot be sent to one axle or even wheel. This could matter in extreme towing conditions, like pulling a boat up a slippery, uneven, slipway.
