Definitely not a S1 - they are all flat sided, the shoulder bulge out (whatever it is called) came in with the S2

Series 1 86" The Queens one looks like a Series 2 due to the individual windscreen wipers and the double ended wheel nuts. (very hard to see!) |

this bulge out here - no Series one had that - 
This is what all Series 1 sides look like (this is my 1956/7 88" model) -
And the round edged (at the front) bonnet as Mowog said A great Marylin pic and a very famous one 
And none of the vehicles is a defender btw  2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

The basic!! 11A came without the rounded bonnet edge, My 64 Safari spec, had the rounded edge. It could be the number of Rivets.

It's a series 2. The glaringly obvious pointer is the deep sill. Probably the quickest way of distinguishing between 2 and 2A at a glance. You don't need to look at anything else. |

After a bit of googling I now believe that it is a series 2A as the station wagon was not introduced until 1962 and the series 2 was from 1958 to 1961. Short sills did not appear until around 1969 with the series 2A suffix G (when the headlights moved from the front panel into the wings) |

The Station Wagons came along during S1 production - so definitely pre 1958 and I think there were both 107" & 109" SWs so before the change in length that was added that took 86" models to 88" and 107" to 109" (not sure on date but somewhere mid 50's) 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic
