Spare Wheel Again

The definitive answer from land rover is that the option of a full size spare wheel will only give a full size tyre on a steel wheel. Not on a matching alloy. This is for a Uk model.
This after speaking to 4 people at land rover and waiting a full day for an answer.
If anyone knows different please let me know. toothdoc

Belgium 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Rimini Red

Here in Belgium I bought the HSE with the option of the full size alloy spare : the spare is exactly the same as the four other wheels (rim and tyre)

I admire your persistence in obtaining an answer, but believe that the words 'definitive answer' & 'Land Rover' do not sit comfortably in the same sentence. In my experience they are disorganized and inconsistent, I don't believe they are capable of giving a definitive answer ... the most credit I could give them is their ability to give you a 'best guess'.

Hi Avtur
My feelings on the spare wheel issue is it should be the same as on the car, it will look terrible in the event of puncture change, no advert for what is a good looking vehicle. For this priced car it should be right
Do you think L/R will listen?

I opted for the Full Size Spare option on my HSE (18inch alloys) and it came with an identical spare (alloy) wheel and tyre to those on the car. Delivered April 07

I got a TD4S and it came with a full size spare alloy with matching tyre. One thing I found out recently was that the socket on the tyre iron that comes with the jack did not fit the nuts on the wheels.

Warning to people, check that your socket fits your wheel nuts before its too late.

I have tried the socket on the wheel brace and it does fit. However I always torque the bolts up after changing a wheel with a torque wrench. In my socket set a 22mm socket is slightly big and a 20mm too small. Has anyone tries a 21mm? A 21mm socket was not supplied in my socket set. Of course does anyone know the torque setting for the wheel bolts?

torque alloy rims

The torque for the bolts is 136 nm in metric figures for factory fitted alloys.
If you use alloy wheels from other manufacurers such as Dezent-Wheels.com, who offer top quality alloys for the Freely 2 (Type M hg) at reasonable prices, the recommended torque is 160 nm.

Thanks yamaha-fan for that. I always torque the wheel bolts especially after going to tyre fitters. I know people who have got flat tyres along the road and not been able to undo the bolts because they have been tightened too tight.

Thanks again

For the spare wheel, I suggest anyone with a steel wheel wanting a proper alloy should contact their local dealer and talk to them.
They might be able to get in a F2 to sell with a alloy spare (maybe from another dealer) where the customer buying doesn't want to pay the extra £120 for an alloy, possibly due to company car tax or whatever.
As long as your steel spare is unused, they might exchange your steel spare for the alloy. Better paying £120 than the £350 the parts dept is asking.
I only had to wait 1 week until 1 became available, but well worth the wait... Very Happy Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.
