United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Ipanema Sand

Many thanks for all your suggestions but after trying, unsuccessfully, to get the battery out i've decided to invest in one of these battery jump starter units so if anyone has a recommendation please let me know.

I did try to take the battery but I found (apart from moving all the wires) I was to low to get the necessary purchase, to extract it. As for trying to charge it locally, which would be ideal, I didn't have any contacts

Thanks again

Why do you need it?

Are you only driving occasionally or for very short trips?

Are you sure that the alternator and Battery are in good condition?

Good luck

Paul

Very short trips, especially after giving up caravanning. Took a long trip yesterday and things have improved slightly which proves battery and alternator are ok. Thanks for the recommendation, have order one as a precaution.

Does the car still have the original battery?

If the battery is 12.6v after been left for 24 hours, replace it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Holding voltage is not the same as voltage/amperage under load.......if your Varta is a lead acid battery (vs AGM), 8 years is way too long if you don't drive it often or go on long drives. The amperage is likely depleted permanently . You need a new battery. 12.6 volts is fine in cold/sub zero temps, 12.6 volts in hot weather like Aussieland maybe signs a battery is on it's way out.

To add, a battery sitting at 12.4 volts for a period of time will sulfate, especially lead acid batteries. If your Varta is eight years old and is a lead acid battery, you seriously got your money's worth out of it Wink Smile

To test the battery my preferred method is to check the Voltage dip while cranking

If the Voltage dips below 10 Volts then I replace the battery

Note: the booster will minimize the dip

For my Freel2 if the voltage dips too low then one of the modules will latch up and drain my battery when I switch off the engine

To prevent this I replaced my battery every 4 or 5 years

Let us know if the booster solves your problem

Take care

Paul
