I know a fair few of you own or have owned Evouque's, I am considering replacing my wife's car with an Evoque as the roads around here are now like the moon and she wants to drive the freely all the time!

Can any owners give me some advice on specs, manual vs auto, TD4 vs SD4 and real mpg's please. Is it as problematic as some make out?

My preference of spec is an SD4 auto pure tech around 12/13 plate. We both like our auto freelander which I believe would be the same engine and gearbox?

Any advice appreciated and I look forward to the hairdresser comments!

My sister has an Evoque with everything, her husband coughs up as needed! Maybe the hairdresser jokes are better!

I feel like I need a periscope sitting in it. Lot smaller boot, no full size spare. Not quite sure why one wants to torture oneself with a manual these days! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Evoque is based on the last Freelander 2 chassis, but has a smaller boot and headroom.

Just buy a late Freelander 2.

Yes they are very much from the same stable except for the price difference and the FL2 is in my opinion a more practical car with a better driving position... Buy the wife an FL2 and pocket the change.  94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

Our family have both... a late 2013 FL2 and a 2015 Evoque Dynamic SD4 auto... horses for courses really... both have the same engine and both return around 36mpg..
The FL2 is a far more practical load lugger and general runaround....the Evoque is a far nicer place to be, more comfortable and the car of choice on a longer journey....
I don’t think it is the same chassis as previously suggested...they are completely different and the noise vibration harshness are light years apart....
The Evoque handles as if on rails whereas the FL2 shows it’s age with earlier limitations and far sloppier handling...
If I was in the market for one I would definately go for the earlier engine..not the Ingenium engine version which came out post 2015.

Both are built on the same (Ford) EUCD platform (aka Ford Mondeo).

The Ewok handles better due to the suspension set up and it's lower point of gravity.

All I can say is that having had several FL2s in the family and now on a 14 plate the current one, SD4 auto XS, does feel and drive differently to the earlier ones. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The petrol engine is a lot quieter than the diesel & if you stuff the car full of acoustic insulation it's a seriously nice place to be. When I first got the wider tyres I was aware that the car felt more stable, which is surprising for an extra 20mm width. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Our 64 plate Metropolis is the first FL2 we have owned but a pal has a 10 plate auto and it feels and sounds like a very different car to travel in... like chalk and cheese you might say, I dont know what the exact differences are but ours feels better built smoother and quieter somehow. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

As some comments above a late Fl2 Sd4 would be a better option , our 07 plate Fl2 compared to our 12 plate are worlds apart . A late Sd4 Dynamic would be my choice over the Evoque.

We have owned a newer facelift (not the newest version) Freely in the past and don't notice any difference apart from preferring the auto box that we have currently. The freely would be the workhorse and the evoque would be the commuter so the smaller boot etc shouldn't be a problem.

I have looked at newer Freelanders and their residuals are pretty strong. For the same sort of money I can get a similar aged evoque with a more modern interior that is a bit smaller for the wife parking at work.

I think I'm set on an auto and need to go and drive a few to make sure it's not to claustraphobic inside.

My daughter in law has traded her Evoque in for a Mini 4x4 and is much happier with it. Same dimensions funnily enough. Silver 2009 HSE
