They are designed to collect dog hairs, empty cartidge cases, bits of bailer twine, dog leads and other useless crap. 11 GS Bali Blue

Now I see your second photo, I believe it is part of the ducting that controls the 'exit' of air through a flap vent that happens when closing the tailgate. This part stops water getting back into the body area.

As the open end faces down, they must be for the 'gravity free' version of those bits, and they're about the only bit of the vehicle that doesn't collect dog hairs.
They're not connected to anything, just an upside down moulding with Velcro stuck on, so can't see how that would work.
I've no idea (which is why I asked the question  )
They seem quite elaborate and I'm sure JLR wouldn't have stuck them on for fun. The (UK) nearside one also has a strip of Velcro stuck across the bottom of the outside of the pocket that I've never worked out the use for. |

I think that's almost it, the boot floor doesn't touch the pocket but these go down to the metal floor, so think they are to support the pocket and the Velcro to pad the plastic against the metal. Thanks |

A few more ideas for what to stuff in the corners. On the other side is a second fire extinguisher, air hose & tyre pressure gauge, DC clamp meter.

IIRC, the official LR extinguisher bracket is supposed to be mounted on the offside (right hand side) of the boot.

I carry two 2Kg powder extinguishers, one in passenger's foot well, other next to 'D' pillar of boot.

I tried with a 1kg in front, just not enough room. Also tried with a 2.3kg in the boot, it took over the space. I would prefer a 2.0 - 2.3kg as they pack a lot more punch but at least with two smaller extinguishers there is back up. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
