Car door protectors

Anyone have any experience of car door protection bumpers (car defender etc.) that can help prevent unwanted dings from the ignorant pillocks parking next to you? FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

Thanks for that, was thinking more along the lines of the removeable pads you can get - door defenders I think - but the fitted strips look good, look to offer fairly good protection.

Anyone know if they sell Chobham armour...? Very Happy FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

Good site, like the Inclinometer (Part Number: D33) - wondering if it would fit in the FL2 sat nav hole when the sat nav is not there... Very Happy http://www.duckworthparts.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh...3aD33#aD33 FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

I've ordered protection strips. Its true they may compromise looks. But a criterion for 'good design' is that function must never be compromised for simple aesthetics. Design must be adapted to accomodate practicalities. The reality is that we all must sometimes park in narrow parking spaces, and we all suffer the risk of a ding. Thus good car design MUST take this into account. I was amazed when my current BMW 320D came without protection strips. Yes, it looks nice - until you get a ding! And then you have to fork out to for the respray.

I'm not far from you gilfishman, and if that is your actual location on the map then closer still... Mr. Green

We like ASDA (Caerphilly) for the reason that they have coin released trolleys and a large flat car park - we park at the farthest point away which seems to always stay quiet.

Know what you mean though, we parked the FL1 a few weeks ago in the Talbot Green shopping centre car park (gilfishman will know what that place is like...) at around 7 o'clock one evening, over the far side, nobody near us, plenty of spaces everywhere finally at that time. Came back out to see some beat up thing so close to thus that we couldn't open the passenger door so god knows how they got out (did check but no dings). Could have parked anywhere but they had to park alongside another car... Censored

We've also straddled spaces in the past as well... We were bad enough with parking before with the FL1, the FL2 is even wider (slightly)... Perhaps a couple of bollards in the boot would do! FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

Well Tonka, you are probably considered A Real Dick when you park like that Shocked and they park as close as they can to annoy you Sad .
If you don't want dings, don't park, buy a rusty old wreck, or fit the biggest rubber protection strips you can find

Seriously though - I understand the problem only too well and have had similar parking problems - got a ding during the first month on the local ferry Sad , where the parking position was not an option - Fitted the protection strips on the doors which personally I think suits the Freely and since no more dings (yet) Very Happy 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Trouble is with the strips is that they are relatively narrow and any protection they provide depends on the particular door of the car parking next to you. Ideally the strips should be about 5" wide and an inch or so thick... Very Happy

Could do with door jackets with 2 or 3 foam pipe insulation tubes in each... Alternatively, one of these... http://www.morethanpolish.com/Cushioned-ca...system.asp but fitted to the door rather than the garage wall Mr. Green FL2 TD4 XS manual, XS style pack, Martinique Blue

The magnetic Door Defender would do just a treat if it were MUCH wider.
However magnetic things have a habit of falling off - ask our Mr. Pinks about that one Laughing 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
